Project Objectives
To provide stable and reliable voice and data communication
Mehsana, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Cambay, Ankleshwar and Gandhar in Western Onshore & NEELAM offshore complex. Application of the network Real time---Voice, SCADA Non real time Internet, Intranet, SAP Bandwidth Intensive future applications Video conferencing
CONTD
Upgrade the present communication infrastructure for future bandwidth intensive applications such as
video conferencing, Video streaming, Online visual monitoring & control The present infrastructure is not sufficient & able to handle these requirements Plan to upgrade the existing infrastructure by using broad band terrestrial communication including fiber & broadband wireless access technology (4 G)such as WiMAX & LTE
ADVANTAGES of WiMAX
Bandwidth Efficient >3G technology with sector data throghput is 22 Mbps /10 MHz . For multisector base station (4 sector ) data throughput will be 80 Mbps (present channel bandwidth of ONGC is 14 MHz/ base station expected to give 40 Mbps dat throughput) Low cost compared with existing Satellite & leased line communication infrastructure Existing infrastructure is not capable of handling bandwidth intensive real time video applications due to bandwidth limitation Fast internet browsing & data transfer. Easy & cost effective maintenance.

What is WiMAX?
Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave
Access (WiMAX) is the common name associated to the IEEE 802.16a/d/e standards.
These standards are issued by the IEEE 802.16
subgroup that originally covered the Wireless Local Loop technologies with radio spectrum from 10 to 66 GHz.
WiMAX is NLOS (Non Line of Sight) technology Works on Multipath received signal Frequency reuse by x-polarization is not possible Frequency reuse is possible by height difference of base stations Use of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) Technique which able to operate in larger delay spread in NLOS & Multipath signal environment. Use of adaptive modulation (64QAM to BPSK) for efficiency, reliability & robustness Use of adaptive bandwidth for efficient use of channel utilization
Data Rates (DL+UL) 64QAM3/4 64QAM2/3 16QAM3/4 16QAM1/2 QPSK3/4 QPSK1/2 BPSK1/2
Net Mbps per Sector 10.16 9.04 6.78 4.52 3.39 2.26 1.13
TDMA, DL OFDMA & TDMA PHY considerations that affect the MAC
Duplex: TDD, FDD, FDX FDD BS and SS, HDX FDD SS Adaptive burst profiles (Modulation and FEC) on both DL and UL
Protocol-independent core (ATM, IP, Ethernet) Flexible QoS offering (CBR, rt-VBR, nrt-VBR, BE) Strong security support
Adaptive PHY

Burst by burst
channel Dynamic asymmetry does not transmit & receive simultaneously (low cost) Frequency-Division Duplex (FDD) Downlink & Uplink on separate RF channels Full Duplexing (FDX): can Tx and Rx simultaneously; Half-duplexing (HDX) SSs supported (low cost)
