LO1: Social Action

Thames Valley Adventure Playground

As children, most of us would take for granted the chance to

get out and about, exploring, climbing trees, visiting the park and hanging out with friends, but for many children and adults with a special need, it just isn't possible. If you have a physical disability, the difficulties are more obvious, but, if you have a learning disability or sensory problems, you may find it hard to relate to other people and to join in their games. Since 1982 the Thames Valley Adventure Playground has provided a chance for children & adults with all types of special need to enjoy the fun, freedom and friendship afforded by the opportunity to play and share experiences in a safe and stimulating environment. Wheelchair-accessible roundabouts and swings, elevated walkways allowing someone with profound and multiple problems to enjoy the excitement of 'climbing' trees, bucket seats with safety harnesses to enable them to experience the thrill of whizzing down a zip wire, multisensory rooms to stimulate and relax, with specially-trained staff to provide help and support - these are just a few of the things on offer.

Young Carers
In the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Young Carers are

children and young people aged 19 years and under who provide care and support for someone in their family who is ill, has a disability, or mental health problems or who may be misusing alcohol or drugs. This could be your mum or dad, brother or sister or your grandparent. We understand that life can sometimes be difficult for a Young Carer. Having to do all of these extra tasks might be affecting how you get on at school, the time you have available to go out with your friends, your own health and might make you feel as if you are totally on your own and no one else understands what is happening. Young Carers are then able to give the carer guidance or support. They give them cancelling if needed and support in anyway possible: meet other young people who know what it's like come along to the regular young carers drop-ins' find help and advice on how to cope go on fun activities or breaks get more help for your family

Mission Greenbelt

The Mission Greenbelt Project works with San Francisco residents to build a public artwork of sidewalk gardens connecting the citys street trees, existing sidewalk gardens, backyards and vacant lots. The projects goals are: to create more habitat and forage for area birds and insects, and to collect rainwater, which is otherwise diverted into San Franciscos combined sewage treatment system. And this system overflows regularly into SF Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The Mission Greenbelt Project is part of a network of people working to...

1. Encourage biodiversity (Nature in the City) & (Urban Hedgerow). 2. Grow & distribute fresh food (Free Farm Stand) & (Produce to the People). 3.Improve public space (PlantSF), Mission Roots, (Guerrero Street Greening), (Livable City) & many others. 4.Enjoy San Franciscos natural & cultural legacy (Hill Babies Blog).
