In other words, data communication is the exchange of data between two devices via some form of transmission medium.
Data
communication is the transmission of electronic data over some media. The media may be cables, microwaves.
Data Channels
Data channels are dedicated lines for communicating digitized voice and data.
There are FOUR ways or modes for transmitting data from one location to another.
1) SIMPLEX MODE
In simplex mode, data is transmitted in only one direction. A terminal can only send data and cannot receive it or it can only receive data but cannot send it. Simplex mode is usually used for a remote device that is meant only to receive data.
2) HALF DUPLEX.
In half duplex mode, data can be transmitted in both directions but only in one direction at a time. Wireless communication is an example of half duplex.
Advantages
of Half Duplex Costs less than full duplex. Enables for two way communications
Disadvantages
of Half Duplex Costs more than simplex. Only one device can transmit at a time.
3) FULL DUPLEX.
In full mode, data can be transmitted in both directions simultaneously. It is a faster mode for transmitting data because no time wastes in switching directions.
Full Duplex Mode Example of full duplex is telephone set in which both the users can talk and listen at the same time.
The most expensive method in terms of equipment because of two bandwidth channels is required.
4) SERIAL
Serial communication takes a data communication, breaks it up into small pieces, and sends the message one bit at a time through a channel. The receiver collects the small bits and reassembles them to compose the original message. Serial communication is the most common type of communication between electronic devices.
One
example of serial communication in action is the data sent from a MODEM to the service provider.
are THREE different types of computer data transmission are available. They are
1.Processor
1.PROCESSOR TO PROCESSOR
This communication normally refers to the communication between two or more computers to interchange large quantities of data such as bulk update of files or records and so on. This communication also refers to the communication which takes place between two or more computers when working in tandem.
The personal computer can send , receive and stores the information from another large computer, which is normally the host computer.
It can be a high-end server or a mid-range server. The host computer serve the data to the personal computer.
1) ONLINE COMMUNICATION
2) OFF-LINE COMMUNICATION
A.ONLINE
COMMUNICATION:
In this communication, a direct connection is made between the devices interchanging information, and the transfer occurs almost instantaneously. The time taken for the actual data transfer depends on the amount of data to be transmitted and the capacity of the line.
B.OFFLINE
COMMUNICATION:
In this communication, the transfer of information is not immediate. The data is prepared for subsequent transmission. Eg. Are data transfer by Pen-drive Memory-cards Hard-disk etc.
