2. Sororities = females; Fraternities =males some "sororities" are actually "female fraternities" difference is negligible today although in the past there were differences.

3. Sexism is rampant in the Greek System fraternities take toward women is notoriously misogynistic (hatred of women) demonstrated in some of the practices of the groups taking pledges to strip clubs "tagging" female guests at parties to label them as available or off limits to other members

4. Hazing gave Fraternities and Sororities a bad name currently most major Fraternities and Sororities have an active anti-hazing policy

10. No matter what their reputation, Fraternities and Sororities are here to stay and can be a wonderful part of your university experience, the trick is finding the one that best suits you.

Joining fraternities is like joining a powerful group in a university. Even though certain risks have been identified, people are still very eager to join to gain power and protection. They are blinded by the privileges offered to them. Tristan Zantua, 3rd year, Information Technology, University of Santo Tomas

I think its because most of them just want to get favors from the brotherhood. Some want prestige since ordinary people seem to regard frat members with a high impression and find them superior or astig. Membership in fraternities may protect them from people who attempt to hurt them physically. Myka Cruz, 2nd year MassCom, Centro Escolar University

Most people think that joining fraternities can expand their professional network. While most are usually just after the promise of guidance and assistance from their senior frat brothers, others only join fraternities to feel accepted or worse, just to feed their ego. Despite the known dangers of joining fraternities, many believe that the perks that they get from it still make up for any harm that it might cause them. Jose Miguel Perez, 2nd year proper, Dentistry, University of the East

need to love and be loved Many people become susceptible to loneliness, social anxiety, and clinical depression in the absence of this love or belonging element. may overcome the physiological and security needs

lack security in their own homes. They look for people who will look after them. They think that these people want a boost of confidence. They usually long for a sense of belonging. It makes them feel secure. It also may be because they think that joining fraternities would prove their worth or perhaps they see similarities among themselves and the other members of the group.

They tend to ignore the numerous consequences that come with it because they know that they will be backed up all the time. If they are the type of troublemakers, they join for greater power. But sometimes there are people who join frats just to temporarily get rid of their problems.

misjudged by the public due to the increasing number of cases in hazing, hence there is hasty generalization. liking for what that fraternity stands for, legacy, brotherhood, professional connections, and other personal reasons. We should keep in mind that not all fraternities are bad, just like there are good Christians and bad Christians, good Muslims and bad Muslims, and so on.

Students still join fraternities because of the benefits that they get from it (financially and emotionally). Despite the risks, they still consider the brotherhood more important than any other physical injuries that they would face. Also, maybe its because people can see more of the good purpose of the brotherhood rather than the possible adverse effects.
