Graduation Workshop
Spring 2009

The enclosed materials were compiled through a grant from the US


Department of Education. However, the contents have not been reviewed by
the Department and no endorsement should be inferred. The SSS project at
ENMU-Roswell, award number PO42A050582-08, is 100% federally funded at

Graduation Checklist

In this workshop, we will


examine the graduation process
at ENMU-Roswell.
If you do not follow the steps,
you will not graduate this
semester!!!
Deadlines!!!
• Please note these important deadlines!!!!
• You must apply for graduation on or
before Friday, March 6th, 2009.
• If you do not file for graduation:
– You will NOT graduate.
– You will NOT walk in the graduation
ceremony.
– You may NOT get jobs that require a
completed degree.
• If you miss the spring deadline, summer
applications are due by Friday, June
Step 1: Apply for Graduation

• Download the Application for Graduation


form at
http://www.roswell.enmu.edu/admissions/application_for_graduat

• Fill out the Application and turn it into the


Registrar’s Office.
– The Registrar’s Office is located in the lobby of
the Student Services Building, next to Financial
Aid.
– Note: You can submit the form online, but
turning it in yourself ensures that it gets to

• Make an appointment with the SSS office


and let us help you fill out the
application.
• We also will provide a signed degree plan
to turn in with your application, which
may be required.
• And, help you submit your paperwork.
• You’ll also need to make sure that your
major is listed correctly with the
university.
Step 1: Apply for Graduation

Note:If you plan to graduate in the


summer, there is not a summer
graduation ceremony.
Instead, you can participate in the
spring graduation ceremony by
applying for graduation now, or you
can wait until the fall to walk.
Step 2: Pay Grad Application Fee
• You must pay a fee to the Cashier for
your Graduation Application to be
processed.
• Graduation Application Fees are:
– Associate’s degree……………………………….
$15
– Certificate of Completion………………….….
$10
– Certificate of Occupational Training…….
Free 
– Certificate of Employability………………….
Step 2: Pay Grad Application Fee
• The Graduation Application Fee does
not have to be paid at the time you
apply. However, the sooner you pay
the better.
• What if my graduation plans change?
– Your application fee won’t be returned,
but you can revise your application to
reflect the semester you will graduate.
– You can only “roll” your application like
this one time, so think hard about when
you will finish.
Multiple Degrees & Certificates

• What if I’m completing multiple


degrees or certificates in the same
semester?
– You must submit a separate Graduation
Application for each certificate or degree.
– You must also pay separate Graduation
Application Fees for each certificate or
degree you apply for.
ONCE AGAIN, IF YOU DO NOT
TURN IN YOUR APPLICATION FOR
GRADUATION BY FRIDAY, March
6TH, YOU WILL NOT GRADUATE IN
Spring 2009.
Step 3: Take The CAAP Test
• All students applying for graduation
are required to complete the CAAP
test, unless:
– You are graduating with a certificate only
and have less than 60 GPA credit hours.
• What is the CAAP Test?
– The Collegiate Assessment of Academic
Proficiency is ENMUR’s way of determining
what (if anything) you learned during your
time here.
• note: you will not graduate in spring
Step 3: Take The CAAP Test
• Can I fail the CAAP test?
– No. How you perform on the CAAP test does
not affect your ability to graduate.
– However, if you perform well you’ll have a
special insignia added to your diploma
indicating your achievement.
• CAAP testing is only available April
15th to April 17th at Testing Services
(624-7183).
• No appointment is necessary. Call for
testing hours as they will vary.
Step 4: Get Your Cap & Gown
• You can purchase (about $20) your cap &
gown from the ENMU-Roswell bookstore.
– If borrowing your cap & gown from
someone, be sure its color matches what
is currently in use!
• The last day to order caps & gowns is
April 20th.
• Caps & gowns should arrive in late April.
– You can contact the bookstore at 624-
7192 to check on your order, if you don’t
Step 4: Get Your Cap & Gown
• Do I wear anything different if I’m
graduating with honors?
– Yes, you are eligible to wear cords. You may
order cords (about $8) with your cap & gown.
• How do I know if I’m graduating with
honors?
– To graduate with honors, your career GPA
(which includes ENMUR & transfer credit)
must be 3.50 or higher.
– If you are unsure if you will graduate with
honors, the bookstore will have a list of
Step 5: Walk In The Ceremony
• Walking is optional, but you should walk
unless you want Russell harassing you
until you wish you had.
• Spring 2009 Commencement is
Friday, May 15th at 5:30pm at the
parking lot between the OTC building
and Child Development Center. 
– Note: The ceremony will be held on
campus, however, the exact location is
subject to change. Stay tuned…
– The ceremony usually lasts 1 to 1 ½ hours.
• If possible, attend the Commencement
Step 5: Walk In The Ceremony

• Important Disclaimer:
– Participating in the graduation
ceremony DOES NOT mean that
you have met the requirements
to earn your degree. 
• Completion of degree requirements
(i.e. whether or not you actually
graduated) will be verified by the
Registrar’s Office after the posting of
Step 6: Get Your Diploma

• Make sure your address is correct with


the University!
• Diplomas are mailed about 8-11 weeks after
graduation.
• Diplomas are sent by certified mail, meaning
someone has to sign for the package.
– Only so many attempts will be made to deliver
your diploma. After this, you must pick up your
package at the Post Office.
• If you don’t receive your diploma in the
timeframe listed above, and it’s not at the

• Please note that to receive your
diploma:
– You must owe no money to the
University.
– You must have no holds on your
record.
• You can check your account balance
by contacting the Cashier’s Office at
624-7125.
• You can check for holds on your
Step 7: Submit An Exit Interview
• Financial Aid Exit Interviews have to be
completed by students who received
loans while at ENMUR and:
– Will not be continuing their education at
this time, OR
– Will be transferring to a 4-year school.
• The Exit Interview process can be
completed at www.mappingyourfuture.org
• Failure to submit an Exit Interview, if
required to, may impact future registrations
and financial aid eligibility at ENMUR and
Step 7: Submit An Exit Interview

• Students planning to take courses at


ENMUR after graduating need to
complete an expected graduation date
change form with the Financial Aid
Office.
Step 8: Plan Your Next Steps

• Are you continuing your


education?
• Will you be transferring to another
school?
• Will you be looking for a new job?
• Are you moving out of Roswell?
• Are you staying in Roswell?
• Let the SSS staff help prepare
Step 9: Attend The SSS Celebration

• The SSS staff wants to celebrate your


achievement.
• Stay tuned for place, date and time.
Step 10: Don’t Freak Out
• Graduation can bring out strange
behaviors.
• Don’t be scared…embrace change.
• Don’t stress about the ceremony…just
have fun.
• Remember, this is what you wanted…
this is what you worked for.
• If you start to feel weird, come to
SSS ASAP.
• And, don’t let your brother jump on

• The most important aspect of
this workshop is to apply for
spring graduation by Friday,
March 6th!!!
• If you do not apply for
graduation, everything we
examined in this workshop is
meaningless!!!!!!
One Last Thing…
• As a college graduate and member
of the SSS program, it is now your
responsibility to encourage
education among your family,
friends, and the community.
• Share your knowledge and
experiences so that others can
achieve what you have
accomplished.
• For workshop credit, complete
the attached checklist and bring it
to the SSS Office, or send it to either
