Professional Responsibilites/Cultural Factors

Addressing your responsibilities with your students and parents is important. Maintaining accuarate records of students information (i.e., grades, emergency contacts, participation, attendance, disciplinary actions, parent participation. Communicating with families and allowing them to contribute to their child's school is important in growing a strong relationship with the teacher and child. Reflecting on cultural factors (i.e., religion, race, socio-economic factors, etc.) is important in developing a professional, effective teacher.

Planning and Preparation

Decision making by well-trained professionals allows individual clients needs to be met more precisely andpromotes continual refinement and improvement in overall practice (Darling-Hammond, 1988, p. 59)

Planning with new and creative techniques rather than spending time studying the material, a teacher can deliever the subject matter well and with originality. Preparation for the diversity of the classroom and the difficulites that can arise from them will help a teacher to better understand the type of classroom management needed.
