The Nile was the reason they could live in this harsh Sahara Desert. It was a source of transportation.

Farmers relied on the Nile for floods to come and water their crops. Basically, if it werent for the Nile, there wouldnt be Egypt.

NUMBER 9 MUMMIFICATION
When you think of Egypt, you think of mummies. Well, Ancient Egyptians thought of it everyday. Wealthy Egyptians were always preparing for mummification. Archaeologist have found a sheet of papyrus which had a date of when to deliver the mummy to its family. The mummification process was very complex. Almost 1,000 miles of linen are used to wrap one mummy. The deceased brain is pulled out from his/her nose. All organs are put to dry in jars with faces of gods. But if youre going to die, dont die in a foreign land! In a foreign land you will not be mummified, so you wont have an afterlife!

NUMBER 8 FOOD

In Egypt, the food you eat will tell a lot about you. Poor people diet consisted of bread, beans, onions and vegetables. Not very tasty though! Wealthy Egyptians would sit on chairs, their guests sat on cushions on the floor. Food would be served on silver platters while entertainers danced and played music. If you were there, you would probably be eating beef, since it was the main foods in Egypt. Goat and mutton were not good, and pork and fish were considered unclean, although they were still eaten. NUMBER 7 DREAMS

You wake up in the middle of the night, smiling. You just had a dream you had the face of a leopard. That means you are destined to be a leader. Next door, someone wakes up with a yell. They have just had a dream that their teeth are falling out. This means someone close to this person will die. If you had a dream you were steering a boat, you will lose a case in court.

If you were ill, your chances of getting better in Egypt were high. Doctors kept record of which methods worked well and which ones didnt. Many Egyptian doctors believed the reason you got sick was because your insides were out of place. For example if you were coughing, you might have parasitic worms in your lungs. If you had a longer type, it would be taken out from your leg. If doctors didnt know why you were sick, they believed it was the work of an evil spirit. If that was the case, doctors would recite spells, give you magic potions, give you amulets, and recite prayers.

The Pharaoh was the most important person in Egypt. You would care about him more than your family. After all, the pharaoh is a god. The pharaoh was all powerful and controlled everyone. Rulers of lands the Pharaoh conquered would send him yearly gifts. If you please the Pharaoh, you will be rewarded with jewelry and gold. But if the Pharaoh fails to please the gods, Egypt would not prosper.

The Ancient Egyptians worshiped many gods. All gods had an animal form. The king of the gods is Re or Amon-Re, the sun god. Horus was the god of the pharaohs. The god of the underworld is Osiris. The goddess of magic is Isis. Set was the god of evil. Thoth was the god of knowledge.

In every career you started out as a scribe. Officials needed written records, so scribes were needed. If you knew the right people you could become an army officer or a priest. To become a solder, you would have to afford your own horse and chariot. It was hard to be a soldier but you got a reasonable living.

Craftsmen were always in demand in Egypt. If you were good with your hand you were sure to make a living. Craftsmen made everyday things, like silverware and sculptures. Craftsmen also made temples and obelisks. They also made weapons, furniture, and jewelry. There were metalworkers, carpenters, furniture makers, and goldsmiths.

The year was divided into three seasons with four months each. There was a flood season, in which farmers relied on the Nile to flood the land. The growing season. The main crops were wheat and barley. The final season was the harvest season. During this season, they repaired canals and prepared for the next flood.
