What is the nature
of reality?

Metaphysics is the
foundation of reality
Colossians 1: 16 - 17

 “For by Him all things were created that

are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or principalities or powers. All
things were created through Him and for
him”

 Transformation

Romans 12:2, “Do not conform any longer

to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your
mind. Then you will be able to test and
approve what God’s will is-his good,
pleasing and perfect will”.

 Impart the Biblical attitudes toward

material things and to encourage
individual responsibility of using them for
Proverbs 2:6, “For the Lord gives wisdom, and from
His mouth come knowledge and understanding”

As a teacher, we set priorities as our plan and

justify our content and pedagogy. We include
various modes of knowing and provide for divorce
learners (Brummelen, p. 134). Also teach our
students and treat them with love and respect as a
God’s image.

Recognize and incorporate the content, skills, and

values that our school and education system expect
we to teach (Brummelen, p.138).
Method used Scriptural example Application
Compassion Gal.5:22, 23 and Phil. 2:1-3 Thinking of the student’s need and
responding with a heart of compassion.
Putting your self in the student’s place

Demonstration Mark 6:41 Showing students how to do something.

Best examples are often in science when
we demonstrate the experiment. We can
use this method in many subject areas:
art, music, language, etc. Field trips are
often helpful here.

Discipleship Matt. 10:5 Discipling another person. Taking him

into confidence. Individual Bible study
and training.
Discipline, Reproof, and Correction II Tim. 3:15 At times correcting or disciplining a
student. If done with true love and
compassion, it is often the missing
ingredient needed to stimulate growth in
learning and response.

Small group activity Matt. 17:1-9 Learning within the context of

a small group, in which the
students not only tends to get
the work done, but learns inter-
personal relations at the same
time. Small groups are
sometimes easier to handle
with a project, and it is easier
to identify learning problems
within this context.

Testing John 6:5 Examining the student, both

formally and informally.
Testing can range from oral
quizzes to written exams.
Method can be overused-at
least over relied upon. Care
should be taken in preparation
of tests.
Method used Scriptural example Application
Example of the teacher John 13:4-16 Providing a Godly example in
the classroom, perhaps the
most important method used by
the Christian teacher. “who he
is” teacher much more than
“what he says or does”.
Motivation Phil. 4:6,7 Causing a student to want to
learn or research, one of the
best ways to teach. This isn’t
always possible but well worth
to the effort.
Parables Luke 12:16 Using Christ parables as well
as stories from nature or
experience which help
illustrate a spiritual truth.
Reading I Tim. 4:13 Having the student read, or
reading to a student or class
aloud is a positive method.
Good for re-enforcement as
well as recreation
