D&C 87
Josephs prophecy on war. Received 25 December 1832
Published in The Pearl of Great Price, 1851. Published in The Latter-day Saints Millennial Star, 1860.

D&C 87
That revelation was reserved at the time the compilation for [the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants] was made by Oliver Cowdery and others, in Kirtland. It was not wisdom to publish it to the world, and it remained in the private [writing desk]. Brother Joseph had that revelation concerning this nation at a time when the brethren were reflecting and reasoning with regard to African slavery on this continent, and the slavery of the children of men throughout the world. There are other revelations, besides this one, not yet published to the world. In the due time of the Lord, the Saints and the world will be privileged with the revelations that are due to them. They now have many more than they are worthy of, for they do not observe them. Brigham Young, May 1860

D&C 87
87:1. Not just the American Civil War: wars that will shortly come to pass, beginning at the rebellion of South Carolina.
Wars poured out upon all nations, and eventually terminate in the death and misery of many souls.

87:3. Great Britainshall also call upon other nations. 87:4. Slaves shall rise up against their masters.

D&C 87
87:5. Remnants who are leftshall vex the Gentiles with a sore vexation.
Who is the remnant?
Lamanites/Native Americans (19:27; 109:65), or Scattered tribes of Israel (45:24, 43; 113:10), or Latter-day Saints (52:2).

87:67. Two reasons for these wars. 87:8. Stand ye in holy places, and be not moved. ( hekhal) = holy place, sanctuary.

D&C 90

Mormons in Jackson County, Missouri

D&C 101:4
[Jesus] and the Apostles, in various places, clearly set forth that Abraham was the great exemplar of faith for them to follow, and that [we] must follow him, if [we] ever [expect] to participate in the glory and exaltation enjoyed by Abraham and his faithful seed. Elder George Q. Cannon, October 1869 God required Abraham to sacrifice that which was most dear to him, and he will also require at our hands that which is most dear to us. President George Q. Cannon, October 1873

D&C 101:4
I heard the Prophet Joseph say, in speaking to the Twelve on one occasion: You will have all kinds of trials to pass through. And it is quite as necessary for you to be tried as it was for Abraham and other men of God, and (said he) God will feel after you, and He will take hold of you and wrench your very heart strings, and if you cannot stand it you will not be fit for an inheritance in the Celestial Kingdom of God. President John Taylor, June 1883

What to do next?
101:8692. Appeal their cause all the way to the President.
President Martin Van Buren, February 1840: Your cause is just, but I can do nothing for you.

103:6. The Saints shall begin to prevail against mine enemies from this very hour.

God exists within linear time (D&C 130:45; Abraham 3:19). Joy and anger are emotions felt from met or unmet expectations. Petitionary prayer makes Gods actions conditional upon asking.

Case study: Jonah

Jonah commanded to preach against Nineveh. Jonah 3:4. Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. Jonah 3:10. God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not. ( niphal) = moved with compassion or pity. Did God know they would repent?

What does God know of the future?

All events vs. all possibilities. If he knows the future, do I have free will? Openness theology.

Zions Camp
101:5558. The strength of mine house, which are my warriorsgo ye straightway unto the land of my vineyard, and redeem [it]. 103:3034. Commandment to send a relief force to Missouri = Zions Camp.

John Hamer

Zions Camp
105:213. Do not fight; wait for the Lord to redeem Zion. What good came from Zions Camp?
1. Quorums of the Twelve and Seventy called from Zions Camp volunteers. 2. Joseph instructed participants. 3. Experience in migration.

Blessings of Zions Camp

When I returned from [the Zions Camp] mission to Kirtland, a brother said to me, Brother Brigham, what have you gained by this journey? I replied, Just what we went for; but I would not exchange the knowledge I have received this season for the whole of Geauga County; for property and mines of wealth are not to be compared to the worth of knowledge. Ask those brethren and sisters who have passed through scenes of affliction and suffering for years in this Church, what they would take in exchange for their experience, and be placed back where they were, were it possible. I presume they would tell you, that all the wealth, honors, and riches of the world could not buy the knowledge they had obtained, could they barter it away. Brigham Young, October 1853

Missouri Myths
1. Were going to walk to Missouri to prepare for the Second Coming. 2. The entire Church will be gathered to Missouri. 3. Immense destructions in Missouri preceding the Second Coming (not a yellow dog will be left to wag his tail).
