CST Test Preparation and Review

About The Test


~ The California Standards Test is a state wide exam given to all 2nd thru 11th grade students in the late spring of the school year. ~ The tests are aligned to the California content standards in the following subjects: English, math, history, and science. ~ Student performance on the exam is measured in bands: Far Below Basic (FBB), Below Basic (BB), Basic (B), Proficient (P), and Advanced (A). ~ Students are expected to at least

score proficient on all the exams. The CST scores also determine a schools API (Academic Performance Index).

How Ive Prepared for the CST


How we prepare for the cst is read books do lots of homework. We practice and review all the things weve done. I practice on all the subjects we needed to know and studied hard and was focus on getting to the next banned. I go to sleep early and eat breakfast.

How SFMS teachers have prepare me for the CST test


They help us like doing class work and homework, also warm-ups. They have helped us by reviewing all of the subjects weve learned. They also help us by pointing us to the right direction and tell us either if we are improving or not improving and tell us how we can improve and do better. They give us advice of how to take the CST test.

Test Taking: The Night and Morning Before


Go to sleep early. Eat a good breakfast and get full.(healthy brain) Be relaxed. Bring gum so that you chew it during the test and it makes you chill.

Test Taking Tips: During the Test


Cover the answer choices, then read the question carefully. Think of your answer before looking at the choices, youre less likely to be confused. Cross off choices that are clearly incorrect. This increases your odds of choosing the correct answer. Read the question again carefully, several times. Underline important ideas, units or numbers in the question. Answer easy questions first. Return to more difficult questions and recalculate, reread and make an educated guess. Pace yourself so you have enough time to complete each question. Double check your answers. Answer every question carefully and put the answer in the right spot.

Math Tips

Read the question correctly Make sure you get the question, if you dont read it again. Eliminate answers you know are not right. Read all the choices before choosing your answer. Sometimes there is more than one correct.
Dont keep changing your answers, usually your first choice is right.

English Tips
Before reading the story read the questions and answers, doing this will help you because when you cross over an answer you can answer it. Highlight any thing from the story that will help you towards the test answers. Also underline the clues that you think will help you on test. Eliminate the answers you know are not right, doing that will give you a better chance to get the right answer. Try to have a plan if you know that the answer you choice is not right.

Proper and Improper Fractions


A proper fraction is when the numerator is smaller than the denominator, is less than one. An Improper fraction has a top number grater than (or equal to) the bottom number Examples of Proper Fractions: 4/7, 2/5, 1/9, 10/12 An improper fraction is when the numerator is larger that the denominator or equal to the denominator. Improper fraction is just a fraction where the top number (numerator) is greater than or equal to the bottom number (denominator). Examples of Improper Fractions: 7/4,3/2, 16/15, 12/12

Proper and Improper Fractions


A proper fraction is a fraction whose numerator is smaller than its denominator. An improper fraction is a fraction whose numerator is equal to or greater than its denominator. 3/4, 2/11, and 7/19 are proper fractions, while 5/2, 8/5 12/11 are improper fractions. Improper fractions can also be represented as a mixed number. To convert an improper fraction into a mixed number, divide the numerator by the denominator.

How to turn an improper fraction to a mixed number?

Steps:
1. Divide the numerator by the denominator 2.Write down the whole number answer 3.Then write down any remainder above the denominator. 5/2 = 2 1/2

Spelling
Spelling means in written language, the choice and arrangement of letters that form words. When an ending (such as -s) is added to a word (such as try), we sometimes have to change the words spelling (tries). Practice different strategies for building forceful sentence while using words correctly, effectively, and imaginatively. Practice various strategies for developing well-organized paragraphs and essays that keep readers interested and informed. Style and rhetoric are ancient arts--of persuasion, expression, and effective communication--that are just as valuable to writers today as they were to students in ancient Greece and Rome.
