In the 21st century women must be able to play a decisive role in shaping their future and of their country.

 The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand, which governs the world. But the harsh reality is that women have been exploited in our society over centuries.

 Old customs like dowry still prevail and there are dowry deaths reported from time to time.

 It is therefore natural that when we look at the social development of women in our country, we find that some states like for example like Kerala, are more advanced than some backward states like the BIMARU states namely Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and PUNJAB.

 It is time that new opportunities are arising in the country where women can play a very constructive role.

And as students graduating from the college, your immediate concern should be making a good career for yourself and succeeding in life.

Why?????

 Due to economic compulsions two incomes in a household have become a necessity.

Along with the traditional roles, women now perform an added role of the co-earner.

 These days childrens requirements are touching new heights, by wife supplementing the family income; The husband is happy as his burden is reduced.

 Matrimonial advertisements testify mens preference for working women. This transformation has brought about selfreliance, confidence and a sense of identity in the woman.

 In todays changing society, a work for a woman is not only a need but also necessary for her mental stimulation. An organised working woman can balance her time between work and home intelligently.

 She is considered savvy and earns the respect of her family and friends.

 Being a house wife does not necessarily make you a better mother or wife.

A woman who stays home is taken for granted and her work is considered incidental, leading to frustration, boredom and discontent. With this disposition surely it is impossible for her to give her best to children and husband.

 As the working woman understands the world better, her family lives better, eats better, wears better, enjoys better, works better and learns better. Efficiency, the power to adapt to any circumstance, a high self-esteem, all these qualities symbolise the working woman.

Life is uncertain and so is future

You can be left alone and deserted.. By a sudden untimely death of your husband or divorce. Will you start your life all over again .start your career at a stage when your education would be of no use

If you are not working

the years spent in studying go in vain, often there is a tussle to meet the budget and a general sense of boredom and worthlessness will grip you after your children are old enough to look after themselves.

 Husbands and even children have more respect for a lady who is working; moreover, the very fact that she does not have to ask her husband for money in order to meet her basic necessities earns her respect and raises her selfesteem.
