Improving Patrols With Guard Tour Systems

The physical presence of security guards creates a high level of trust and security among residents and visitors. Security patrols also tell visitors and the general public that this community/facility is well protected. However, human nature being what it is, there will always be security officers who will attempt to take short cuts in their work. When this happens, it often leaves a gaping hole in a facilitys security net. Thus, the need to document security patrols was born. The guard tour system is the most effective way to accomplish this task. Supervision of mobile patrols is essentially maintained by logging a security guard's physical presence at strategic locations throughout the facility. The most common data logged by mechanical watchmans clocks is the day, time and location. Now, more sophisticated electronic systems have come of age which can even store event codes so a security manager has a clearer picture of what transpires each time of a guard's visit on each checkpoint.

A STATE-OF-THE-ART GUARD TOUR SYSTEM (GTS) COMPRISES OF:

Electronic handheld recording devices are carried by patrolling officers. These devices should be able to connect to local and remote down loaders. These handhelds should be water resistant, rugged in design and use rechargeable batteries. Checkpoint "ID Tags" that are mounted throughout/on the property. The ID Tags should be rugged and reliable in design. They should be secure against copying and not allow for duplicates to be made. A PC-based software is used for receiving, sorting, reporting and storage of the data captured by patrolling security officers. The software should be networkable, easily scales to meet the current and future needs. The system should be configurable and allow for modifications and creation of custom reports to meet your needs.

What is a Guard Tour Reporting System? Why do I need one? BENEFITS OF USING A GUARD TOUR SYSTEM

Standardizes the documentation of patrol activity Provides "Proof of Presence" by security personnel who patrol property. Increases accountability Increases Productivity and Accuracy Mitigates Liability

Standardizes documentation of patrol activity

The standardization of documentation will increase guard productivity and make training easier since you only have one system to learn.

Guard Tour Reporting Systems

Provides "Proof of Presence" by security personnel who patrol property.
The "Presence" of security personnel is important to:
Visitors

and Guests at the community who expect a safe environment. Employees and contractors/vendors in the community who expect a safe environment. Asset Managers who expect the protection of company property. Company executives hoping to create a justified perspective that the property is "safe & secure.

Guard Tour Reporting Systems

Increases Accountability Track movement of security personnel; Ensure that all checkpoints are visited; Summary reporting available for Risk Management oversight and; Threats to safety are reduced by comprehensive patrolling.

Guard Tour Reporting Systems

Increases Productivity and Accuracy

The system keeps the officers "moving", covering more areas in less time; Clerical errors are eliminated by fully electronic data collection and reporting; Handwritten log sheets and manual data entry are reduced/eliminated, saving hours each day, and; Decrease property theft by more comprehensive patrolling. Enables users to plan patrol routes better.

Liability Mitigation Protect against law suits with the GTS's audit trail and historical reports that "prove presence; Defend against liability for on-site injury with GTS's recording and tracking of incidents and events; Safeguard against insurance liability coverage increases with sound policies and procedures that reduce the rate of claims and; Reduce unemployment insurance premiums with an "objective officer performance record" that justify any terminations.

Principle of Operation: Setup site buttons in the places where you need to patrol, the site button stores the guard tour geographic information, the guard carry the recorder, when he arrives at each patrol point he will only have access to the site button which is mounted on the wall. When a "tick" sound is heard, the red light will turn bright, meaning the patrol time, location and other data has been automatically recorded in the recorder. When the guard finishes his patrol, he inserts the recorder into the downloader unit at the office and the stored data is transferred from the recorder to the connected computer within a few seconds. The management software will display the patrol route, the arrival time at each site button and any missed patrol points. A patrol report can be generated finally. Software Management: The operation system is WINDOWS98/2000/XP/WINDOWS 7.
