Comparing Australian and Chinese Adolescents Physical, Social and Emotional Health
Using your knowledge of Australian adolescents lifestyles, you are to analyse the similarities and differences between Chinese and Australian adolescents and how their health is effected (Physical, Social and Emotional) because of these lifestyles.
Schools in China - 8:30am 5:30pm - Class sizes of up to 50 students -Teacher directed classes - Highly competitive for entry into university - Large emphasis on academia - Large emphasis on homework many hours afterschool and on weekends. (Think of activities you do outside of school as well as homework)
Population Size
China has a population over 1 BILLION people. Shanghai has a population of about 21million people equivalent to Australias population. China is also about the size of the USA. What pressures would this cause for adolescents? With so many buildings do they have much space for parks, ovals, play areas? Would they have enough space for big houses with backyards? What open spaces are around your house/suburb?
Environment
- China has very poor water quality and its citizens cannot drink the water. - China also has a very weak sewerage system this means that no extra materials can be flushed. - With over 1 billion people in China there is a huge amount of rubbish produced where does this go? - With so many people and so many cars on the road, Chinas cities are highly polluted and has very poor air quality
Sports
Chinese people participate in a range of physical activities Some of these are organised sports, and some not, including group and individual activities.
all these factors could impact (positively or negatively) on the health of an adolescent growing up in a Chinese city. You then need to compare this to the health of an average Australian adolescent. You should also mention ways to improve any areas that may be low. This must be in a presentable format e.g. poster, powerpoint, video, website.
