DEFINITION OF CARTOGRAPHY
Art, science and technology of creating maps together with their study as scientific documents. WHAT ARE MAPS ? Graphic representation of geographical environment. FUNDAMENTAL FUNCTION OF A MAP Bring things into view.

Maps are concerned with two elements of reality Location

SATELLITE REMOTE SENSING

Remote sensing is the process of collecting, storing, and extracting environmental information from images of the ground acquired by devices not in direct physical contact with the features being studied. BASIC PRINCIPLES OF SATELLITE REMOTE SENSING

All objects with temperatures above absolute zero

continuously emit a broad range of electromagnetic wavelengths and frequencies.

Remote sensing devices detect and record radiant energy.

CONCLUSION
Space technology has changed the definition of cartography. Cartography can be defined as visualization of geo-spatial data. Geographers were the primary users of maps. But now people in sciences, engineering, and humanities also see the map as a valuable way to organize and express ideas. The potential now exists for every individual to create a cartographic visualization from a spatial database. This means mapping process will increasingly be shifted from the professional cartographer to the map user. This shift in responsibility creates a need for training in the public schools and educational institutions. 10
