Chemical bond- An attractive force that holds together the atoms, ions, or groups of atoms in a molecule or crystal. Chemical reaction(s)- A chemical transformation or change. Compound- A substance formed by chemical union of two or more ingredients. Electron(s)- A subatomic particle with a negative charge that circles the nucleus of an atom in the electron cloud at high speeds. Negative charge- The charge of an atom when the number of its electrons is greater than the number of its protons. Proton(s)- A subatomic particle with a positive charge that is found in the nucleus. Equal to the mass of one atomic mass unit (AMU). Physical property- A characteristic of an object that can be observed or measured without changing its composition. Metal- An opaque, ductile, usually lustrous substance that is a good conductor of electricity and heat. Ion(ization) energy- The energy required to remove an electron from an atom or ion. Balanced equation- An equation for a chemical reaction in which the number of atoms for each element in the reaction and the total charge are the same for both the reactants and the products.

Single replacement- A type of chemical reaction in which atoms of an element replace the atoms of a second element.
Family- A column in the periodic table. Elements in the same column usually share similar properties. Elemental symbol- The one- or two-lettered abbreviation that an element is identified by. (Chemical) Formula- An expression which states the number and type of atoms present in a molecule of a substance and during chemical reactions.
