What people know and how people think about health and wellness will influence how they attempt to promote it what do you think about health and wellness?
Health as the Absence of Disease Health as Healthy Lifestyles Health as a good quality of life Health is not an endpoint it is a resource for daily living. People who can cope with the daily demands of living and manage the many challenges related to maturation, puberty and demands of school and employment.
WHAT IS HEALTH? Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
WHAT IS HEALTH PROMOTION? The Ottawa Charter defines health promotion as the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve their health.
School Health
When schools do not deal with childrens health by design they deal with it by default until schools address students health as directly as they do math, reading and science, they will not produce employable and productive graduates.
(Marx, Wooley and Northrop, 1998)
So what did you learning about Comprehensive School Health (CSH) when you checked out the Joint Consortium for School Health (JCSH) website? Any thoughts as to why Saskatchewan has added the word Community as in Comprehensive School Community Health?
Comprehensive School Health (CSH) is an integrated approach to health promotion that gives students numerous opportunities to observe and learn positive health attitudes and behaviours. ~Health Canada
A comprehensive school health approach includes a broad spectrum of activities and services that take place in schools and surrounding communities and enable children and youth to enhance their health, develop to their fullest potential, and establish productive and satisfying relationships in their present and future lives.

Social Supports
Studies show that effective health instruction (i.e., teaching and learning within a healthy environment) can change health attitudes and behaviours.
Why do we need CSH? (continued) Simply telling people to exercise more, eat less fat and more vegetables and avoid tobacco has not resulted in enough change in behaviours to keep them healthy. Most people find it difficult to behave differently than their friends
Creating environments where healthy behaviour is the norm will support healthier choices by individuals.
