What is Digital Etiquette?



often times referred to as netiquette
includes information that refers when it is appropriate to use different forms of communication deemed as a set of vital rules to follow while interacting appropriately in the digital world, such as texting, Emailing, social networking sites, and etc.

Why is this important?


Primary Importance: Educators should definitely be a positive role model to every student by setting an example in/out of the classroom. Once teachers gain knowledge in this particular area, they are able to instruct their students on the significance of digital etiquette and how it solely affects others. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to answer the following: 1. Am I aware of how my usage of technology affects others? 2. How can I help others become more conscious of the effects of their technology use? Objective(s): Teachers will be completely conscious of the set rules of etiquette that mainly is apparent with technology usage; therefore being able to instruct the material learned to students. Participants will recognize, clarify and educate the regulations of etiquette that exist with technology use.

Report: Smartphone Compulsion Leads to New Form of Etiquette


According to the results of the survey: 58% of Smartphone owners said they dont go an hour without checking their phone 54% of Smartphone owners said they check their phones while lying in bed: before they go to sleep, after they wake up Nearly 4 out of 10 people (39%) check their phones while using the bathroom Growing usage is also challenging existing etiquette, according to Lookout: 30% check their phones during a meal 24% check their phones while driving Nearly 1 in 10 (9%) check their phones during religious services at a house of worship

Scenario...
While attending the Senior Class Picnic, Jennifer decided to take several images and videos. In particular, she was able to capture footage of her bestfriend Sara purposely getting pushed into the pool . Jennifer was even able to get Sara frantically rushing out of the water highly upset;embrassed. When Sara arrived home later that night she could hardly wait to upload the video to her Facebook account, which included a horrible caption. After the upload, she noticed rude comments about Sara from the people she tagged, but did nothing. Sara later became aware of the video and the friendship with Jennifer ended.

John was totally excited about his date with Emily. He just built up the courage to ask her out on a date, after receiving permission from her father. John decided to take her to see the latest movie, Man of Steel which they were both eager about viewing. They arrived at the theatre and immediately went to retrieve seating. When the movie trailors began, Emily quietly switched her cellular phone to silent mode. Half an hour into the show, Johns loud ring tone carried across the entire theatre. John scrambled to find his phone, which was hidden inside one his jacket pockets. He finally located his phone and proceeded to answer his call while the movie was playing, with a loud whisper. Spectators became annoyed; even Emily and he ended his call.

Turn cell phone on silent/vibrate when appropriate Only respond and send text messages at appropriate times and places Speak on a cell phone only at appropriate times and places Proof-read all forms of digital communication for grammar and punctuation errors before sending and/or replying When speaking on a cell phone in public setting, refrain from not speaking so loudly that it appears to distract others Seek prior authorization before posting images/video of others on the Internet (respect the privacy of others) Stay alert of social media status updates
