What is Gigabit Wireless(Gi-Fi)?

Gi-Fi is the worlds first transceiver integrated on a single chip that operates at 60GHz on the cmos process. Wireless transfer of audio and video data at up to 5 gigabits per second . No Interference. Power consumption< 2 mw .

Stan Skafidas vision to a new era.

The University of Melbourne announced on Friday a new technology they are calling GiFi.

Which promises some serious game-changing wireless transfer speeds for all types of consumer

gadgets.

Melbourne University-based laboratories of NICTA (National ICT Australia Limited)

In 2008 researchers at the University of Melbourne demonstrated a transceiver integrated on a single integrated circuit (chip) that operated at 60 GHz on the CMOS process.

Network evolution.

Basics

The Gi Fi integrated Wireless transceiver

Detailed principle of Gi Fi
Here we will use time division duplex for we will use time division duplex for both transmission and receiving. We will data files are up converted from IF range to RF60Ghz range by using 2 range to RF60Ghz range by using 2 mixers. We will fed this to an power amplifier, which feeds millimeter wave antennae.

The incoming RF signal is first down converted to an IF converted to an IFsignal centered at 5 GHz signal centered at 5 GHzand then to normal data ranges , here we will use hetrodyne construction for this process to avoid leakages due to direct conversion. Due to availability of 7Ghz spectrum the total data will be trasferredwith in seconds.

Wi Fi standards
Standard Throughput 802.11a Up to 54 Mbps Range Frequency Up to 300 ft Between 5 and 6 Ghz Up to 300 ft 2.4 Ghz Up to 300 ft 2.4 Ghz

802.11b Up to 11 Mbps 802.11g Up to 54 Mbps

Why 60 Hz?
Here we will use millimeter wave antenna which will operate at 60Ghz frequency which is unlined band. Because of this band we are band we are highdata rates data rates energy propagation in the 60 GHz band energy propagation in the 60 GHz band has unique characteristics that make possible many other benefits such as possible excellent immunity to co excellent immunity to co- channel interference, high security, and frequency interference.

Features of Gi Fi.
High speed data transfer. Low Power Consumption. High Security. Cost-effective . No Interference. It is also highly portable-we can construct where ever we want.

Application
In Home appliances

In Office appliances

Inter Vehicle Communication System

Video Information Transfer

Advantages
Removing Cables . Low Cost Chip . Security . Simplicity .

Disadvantages
Gi-fi technology is limited upto 30 meters range only but it is short range wireless technology .
