entrepreneurs may be defined as the women or a group of women who initiate , organize and operate a business enterprise. entrepreneurs engaged in business due to push and pull factors which encourage women to have an independent occupation.

The entry of women into business in India is traced out as an extension of their kitchen activities ,mainly 3Ps pickles, powder, pappad emerge into. But with the spread of education and passage of time women started shifting from 3Ps to 3Es Energy , Electronics and Engineering .Skill , knowledge , Adaptability in business are main reasons for women to emerge into.

TREAD Scheme
o TREAD is the scheme launched by the government of India during the 11th plan period. o The scheme envisages economic empowerment of women through trade related training, information and counseling. o This assistance has been provided for self-employment ventures by women.

HISTORY

A pilot project was sanctioned in 1996-97 to Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) Ahmadabad. Based on the successful results of the pilot project, the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) approved a Plan outlay of Rs.14 crores. The Office of DC (MSME) after studying the Scheme in detail and obtaining views from the lending Institutions brought out some changes in assistance components of the Scheme to make it more practical, workable and result oriented.

MAJOR OBJECTIVES OF TREAD

Provide adequate counseling, training and assistance in developing markets. Provide sufficient funds to fulfill their necessary needs. To encourage women in setting up their own ventures. To make women economically empowered.

Recent Trends & Budget allocation of TREAD

Number of women enterprise is 2.15 lakhs till date. Share of women enterprise increases from 10% from 3rd census to 13.7% in the latest census. Budget allocation of the same in the 11th plan is 7 crores. Grants provision is upto 30% of the total project. Budget allocation for the 12th plan will be 12 crores.
