What happens when were baptised


It symbolises the start of a new righteous life, just as much as the end of the old sinful one Romans 6:3-10 .We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Identification with Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:3)

Baptism is Reunion with separated people
Galatians 3:26-28 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 1 Peter 3:20-21 .In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolises baptism that now saves you also.

Testimony about your commitment to God and His purpose Visually demonstrates that you are leaving the kingdom of darkness You tell people publicly what you have experienced inwardly

It is a means of entering into a life of Grace (Blessing) Romans 6:14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

Who may be Baptised?


Those who have Repented
Acts 2:38 Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Those who have Believed


Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

How should one be Baptised?


1. We must publicly testify that we have personally repented of our sins and have believed on the Lord Jesus 2. We should be immersed in the waters of Baptism (lake / river /baptismal pond) 3. We should be baptised in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

What is Baptism in the Holy Spirit


It is a promised gift of the Father Acts 1:4,5 Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about. For John baptised with a water, but in a few days you will be baptised with a the Holy Spirit.

Luke 11:11-13 Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

Misunderstandings
Does not make a person perfect or sinless Power comes in an instant but fruit takes time to grow Not a once-and-for-all experience There is one baptism and many fillings (Acts 2 & 4) Does not remove the need for other means of grace

Misunderstandings (contd.)
Does not solve all problems, but gives power to face them triumphantly It is a Gateway not a Goal, so we need to be baptised in the Spirit but also learn to walk in the Spirit

Mark 16:17-18 they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well. Acts 9:10-17 Placing his (Ananias) hands on Saul, he said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here - has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
