Communication can be defined as transmission or exchange
of ideas, views, message, information, instruction between two or more person by different means. The common means and ways for transmission of ideas are Spoken words Written words Diagrams, pictures or graphs and Gestures
Importance of Communication
Source of Information. Altering Individuals Attitudes. Promotes Cooperation and Peace. Act as a Basis for Decision Making. Helps in Smoothing Working of an Enterprise.
Language
Language is a body of words and the systems for
their use, common to a people who are of the same community or nation, the same geographical area, or the same cultural tradition. Language certainly has evolved gradually with the continuous development of each culture. English language is globally accepted and treated as a common business language.
Language Barrier
Language barriers are a common challenge in international business settingsand a twoway process. What native speakers often don't realize is that frequently it is not the other person's accent but their own way of speaking that creates the greatest barriers to effective communication.
Ask for clarification - If you are not 100% sure youve understood what others say, politely ask for clarification.
Be careful of jargon - Watch the use of TLAs (Three Letter Abbreviations) and other organizational language that may not be understood by others.

Speak slowly and clearly -Focus on clearly enunciating and slowing down your speech.
Be patient - Cross-cultural communication takes more time. If not at all times, certainly initially you cannot expect your communication to occur with the same speed and ease as when you are communicating with someone from your own culture.

Managers need to keep in mind that effective language has always been a weapon to express ones ideas and feelings. The need to express and to communicate honestly in your corporation is a reason enough to make this weapon more efficient.
