In the last National Meet (Palarong Pambansa) held in Naga City last April, Region IV-A (Calabarzon) took the silver medal in mens volleyball in secondary level. One of its players was recognized as the Best Receiver and was included in the Mythical Six.

It is great honor for Timbao Elementary School (TES) because this player was honed to become a very competitive volleyball player in the said school in our school. Even since then, I have noticed his determination and prowess in playing volleyball, said Mr. Michael Gravoso, the schools volleyball trainor, when asked about Henry James Pecaa, the schools 2001 captain ball. As recalled by the trainor, Uneg, as fondly called by his cousins, was always watching and even joining the practice games by the players last 1999. Although they were residing in barangay Timbao, he was not studying in our school but in San Vicente Elementary School. Mr. Gravoso encouraged Uneg to transfer in our school which he did the following school year as a new Grade IV pupil. At that grade level and his age, he was already a regular

member of the team. With the determination and skills shown by the team, they became the district champion on 2000. The following year, he became the captain ball of the team. With him as the leader, they also made it to the districts public schools championship. Even if they lost to the private school during the dual meet, he was picked by the winner to be included in their team in preparation for the Unit Meet. Unfortunately, he was not able to play in the Unit Meet because he got a fever which lasted for days. I was very disappointed because he was not able to display his prowess in playing volleyball. But then, even if it happened, I still believed that he can farther with what he has, says Mr. Gravoso. His career as a volleyball player did not shine when he was already a high school student because the school

where he enrolled was not active in sports. He was 2nd year high school when I introduced him to Mr. Edwin Souza, coach of the University of Perpetual Help of Laguna (UPHL), who by that time was actually scouting for potential players who would compose their schools volleyball team. Uneg transferred to UPHL as a varsity player on 2003. In this institution, his skills were even enhanced. The school had been a consistent champion because of the players skills. At present, Uneg at his height of 511, is now included in the volleyball team of University of Sto. Tomas as a varsity player. It is not impossible that that one day, Uneg willl be included in the national team which will represent our country during international competitions. (Queen Jean A. Flores and Richard S. Abella)
