TASTE IS THE KING OF THE SENSES

Life is sustained by food. All the other senses, with all of the powers of the mind and body, are used to get a living,--to get food. All of the other senses and powers work for the sense of taste, -- to satisfy its demands: whatever the sense of taste requires, they work with all their might to obtain,-they are the servants of the sense of taste and it is the king ruling over and directing them. Therefore, if that which the sense of taste demands is right, all of the powers are daily used in doing right; but if that which the sense of taste demands is wrong, then all of the powers are engaged in doing wrong. The sense of taste largely determines the trend of the life. If the devil can capture this king of the senses he will therein capture the whole man. The Christian Experience p.39
