BTS

 BTS cabinet consists of different

modules, each of which performs a
specific tasks.
 All the modules are fitted on to their
respective slots on the backplane.
 BTS cabinet is of two types:
 1. Indoor Cabinet (needs shelter)
 2. Outdoor Cabinet (no need of shelter)

2
MODULES OF BTS
 LNAS (Low Noise Amplifiers)
 PAS (Power Amplifiers)
 SPLITTERS
 TRX Units
 COMBINERS
 ALARM PANEL
 COOLING UNITS
 POWER UNITS
 BACK PLANE

3
CDU (Combiner Distribution Unit)
 The CDU is the interface between the TRUs
and the 2-way antenna system.
 The task of the CDU is to combine signals to
be transmitted from various transceivers and
to distribute received signals to the receivers.
 All signals are filtered before transmission and
after reception using bandpass filters.

4
 BTS consists of O&M module which monitors
the performance of TRx units.
 It consists of ports (RJ-45, RS-232) to do the
communication.
 Ladders are used in BTS to support cables
from tower on to the BTS cabinet.
 Towers are of two types as RTT and GBT.
 Aviation lamp is present at the top of tower.

5
BTS Shelter
 BTS
 AC
 BATTERY BANK
 SMPS
 GROUND BAR
 MCB (Main Circuit Braker)
 DCDB(DC DISTRIBUTION BLOCK)
 LADDERS
 HATCH PLATES

6
BTS Premises
BTS premises consists of
1. Tower
2. BTS shelter
3. Generator
4. Security room
5. External Ladders

7
 BTS components takes the incoming supply
from mains as the primary source of power.
 As alternate power, it relies on Generator set
and Battery Banks.
 Each module consists of LED’s on the front
which indicates their status
 Green - Operational
 Orange/Yellow- standby/getting ready
 Red - faulty

8
Post Physical Installation
 POWER MEASUREMENT
 VSWR MEASUREMENT
 COMISSIONING
 ALARMS (External & Internal)

9
 Microwave unit basically consists of 3
components
 1. IDU (Indoor Unit)
 2. ODU (Outdoor unit)
 3. Wave guide
 Indoor unit tells how much radio to
generate, outdoor unit generates the
specified amount and wave guide transmits
the generated radio waves.
10
 Microwaves in a descriptive term used to identify
electromagnetic waves in the frequency spectrum
ranging approx from 1 GHz to 30GHz.
 These frequencies contain two energies (Electric and
Magnetic) so also known as ELECTROMAGNATIC
WAVES.
 Propagations of this waves happens in such a way
that direction of propagation, Electric field and
Magnetic field always remains perpendicular to each
other.
 Microwaves frequencies characteristics are very
much similar to light.

11
 Depending on the topography and the
meteorological conditions, radio waves
propagate In different ways causing
attenuation to the original wave.
 The microwave link between one BTS to
other BTS is called “hop”.

12
 Cascading
 Filler modules
Tasks to be performed by O&M Engineer are
 1. Preventive maintenance
 2. Transport Maintenance
 3. Battery Backup
 4. Emergency visits
 5. Expansion/upgradation
