INTRODUCTION
Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to serve billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the interlinked hypertext documents of the World Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support electronic mail.

History Of Internet
The Internet was originally developed by DARPA the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency as a means to share information on defense research between involved universities and defense research facilities. Originally it was just email and FTP sites as well as the Usenet, where scientists could question and answer each other. It was called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency NETwork). The concept was developed starting in 1964, and the first messages passed were between UCLA and the Stanford Research Institute in 1969. Leonard Kleinrock of MIT had published the first paper on packet switching theory in 1961. Once the concept was proven, the organizations involved started to lay out some ground rules for standardization.

One of the most important was the communications protocol, TCP/IP, developed by Vint Cerf and Robert Kahn in 1974. Robert Metcalfe is credited with Ethernet, which is the basic communication standard in networked computers. Al Gore really did have a substantial part in the US legal framework and governmental issues related to the Internet; he never said he invented it. There wasn't just ONE person who invented the Internet. The Internet is just a way to view files and information that someone puts onto a server. The Internet is just a way to access the information. Leonard Kleinrock was the first person to write a paper on the idea of packet switching (which is essential for the Internet to work. He wrote this idea in 1961. Tim Berners-Lee, who perhaps specified technological applicability and/or linguistic construction of HTML while working at CERN, is chiefly credited for the ease of use and wide public adoption of the web.

ADVANTAGES OF INTERNET
Internet is useful in the following ways :1. To communicate with other internet users by chatting or by e-mail. 2. To exchange information or knowledge. 3. To buy/ sell online.

4. To get the latest news from all over the world.

5. To learn, practice or take tests online. 6. To download stuff such as programs, texts, videos and more. 7. To advertise anything.

USES OF INTERNET
Information internet provides us
with the information needed.

Communication with social

networking sites and email , we can communicate with our friends .

Data transfer - with the help of

internet,we can transfer data from one computer to another.

Entertainment - we can listen to

songs , watch movies or play games on the net , hence , it is a source of entertainment.

DISADVANTAGES OF INTERNET
1.Theft of Personal information:Internet users face grave danger as your personal information such as name, address, credit card number etc. can be accessed by other culprits to make your problems worse.

2.Spamming:Spamming refers to sending unwanted e-mails in bulk, which provide no purpose and needlessly obstruct the entire system.

3.Virus threat:Virus is nothing but a program which disrupts the normal functioning of your computer systems. Computers attached to internet are more prone to virus attacks and they can end up into crashing your whole hard disk.

SOCIAL IMPACT
Internet is a whole new world emerging at the conclusion of the 20th century. Everyday, the Internet expands by the social, political, and economic activities of people all over the world, and its impact growth exponentially. Some of this growth in impact has been described here. In this new world there is no geographical separation and there are no borders, and all people are encouraged to participate and contribute drawing on their experiences and resources. In cyberspace actions and reactions are essentially instantaneous, and this is why the

In the areas of business, security is of great concern and importance. The topic of "Fire walls" is in great demand, constantly evolving expanding and changing. In the health care area, the accuracy of what is available to read over the Internet is a topic of concern. The whole new industry of purchasing drugs "on line" is another area where care and prudence are imperative. All in all, the Internet is affecting so many peoples' lives, in a most welcome, exciting and challenging ways.

CONCLUSION
It helps us in many ways. Hence is very useful to human beings Internet is also very big threat to computers as it can lead to virus , spamming etc. Thus I would like to conclude by saying that internet can also create havoc, destruction and its misuse can be very fatal, the advantages of it outweigh its disadvantages.

Appendix
We can access internet through number of browsers . These are :-

1.Internet Explorer 2.Mozilla Firefox 3.Google Chrome 4.Opera 5.Safari 6.Netscape Navigator 7.Sea Monkey
