What is an Accident?
Accident is an unplanned, unexpected and unpleasant event, which may or may not cause injury or ill-health to a person, damage to property or the environment.

What is a Near-miss?
An unplanned event which does not cause injury or damage, but could have done so.
Examples: items falling near to personnel, incidents involving vehicles and electrical short-circuits.

What is a Hazard?
A hazard is anything that may cause harm. Examples: chemicals, electricity, working from ladders, noise, etc.
