When two barrios in Bantay, Ilocos Sur were burned down by feuding political lords, Edjop and his group went to get out the terrified residents and kept them housed in campus until their safety was assured.

Likewise, when huge floods in 1972 left large areas of Luzon underwater for weeks, Edjop solicited the support of government and business groups in a project where youths went to reforest parts of the Sierra Madre mountains.

Hes very romantic. He remembered important dates. It was Valentines Day when we got together as sweethearts. On eve of important dates, he would surprise me with flowers, scribbles, small gifts. Sometimes hell sing to you, then wed burst into a duet.

Before he went underground, he made efforts to meet up with friends from school na more radical than he was, when he was still considered moderate. Probably they could not understand the path that he took, pinapaliwanag niya, maybe try to win them over to join him.

Very serious and intellectually honest, committed student leader who tried to respond to the call of the times. He initiated activities to rally the students for a non-partisan constitutional convention, even for lower tuition, greater academic freedom, and of course outside, how the constitutional convention would impact on the lives of the people.

was arrested in 1979, undergoing torture while under interrogation. After ten days, he escaped and immediately rejoined the underground.

made a written testimony that detailed the physical and mental torture he underwent, his torturers names, rank, and character descriptions.

1981, the military had posted a P180,000.00-prize on his head, making him then one of the most wanted persons in the country. Edjop simply went on with his work in Mindanao, learning and writing, sharing memories with his comrades and the ordinary people he was surrounded with.

On 20 September 1982, he was captured during a military raid in Davao City. Edjop was shot while trying to escape, taken alive, brought to the military camp and interrogated. He refused to cooperate and was summarily executed the following day.

16 years after he urged his fellow students to serve our neighbor, and our country, to the best of our abilities,

First Quarter Storm


The First Quarter Storm was a period of leftist unrest in the Philippines, composed of a series of heavy demonstrations, protests and marches against the government from January to March 1970, or the first quarter of 1970. It was one of the factors leading to the declaration of Martial Law in 1972

After the Storm


300 youths, 72 law enforcers, two cars (Senator Jose Roy), one fire truck, two police jeeps, the iron fence in front of Congress, and 15 electric post bulbs were wounded or damaged. Philippine General Hospital, Manila Doctors Hospital, Medical Center, Marian Hospital, Ospital ng Maynila, were full of riot victims.

He worked first as a labor organizer, and was involved in organizing the strike by workers at the La Tondena plant in 1975 Arrestment in 1979 Mindanao assignments

Death
On the tenth anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law, September 21, 1982, Jopson had a meeting at a comrade's underground house. After the meet, the commission head dropped by the house of a former NUSP colleague, and then went home. Jopson, hearing noises from outside, looked out the window and saw armed men. He quickly alerted six other people in the house and ran backdoor. He was gunned down on his way out. Jopson was 34.
