Cryogenic grinding
Act of cooling and chilling a material and reducing its

particle size Also known as freeze milling/cryomilling Temperatures lower than 150k. Cryo grinding technology system is used . Important cryogenics used are liquid nitrogen, dry ice. Increases productivity and lowers power costs.

Advantages to conventional grinding

Smaller particles and more uniform size/control of

sizes. No losses of etheric oils /higher retention. Clogging of the mill does not occur. Heat losses do not occur and does not degrade the system. Lower power consumption.

Applications
In our country, the spices industry is the most

important area which can make the best use of this system. Thermoplastics industry . Explosives grinding. Medical facilities and biological industry. Adhesives, waxes, food industry. Metal fabrication and electronics.

Objective of this project/Future prospects.

To compare conventional and cryogenic grinding. To analyze and ultimately prove how and by how much

cryogenic form of grinding is better and results in better productivity and lesser losses of materials. Conduct experiments on different spices and steel which would undergo the milling/grinding process . To prepare the sample model of a cryogenic grinder to explain the process.

Until now
Thorough research on both cryogenic and

conventional grinding. Looked out for sources which would help our project work i.e equipment , materials to be used etc. Logistics regarding the making of the sample model.
