Last October 13, 2013, the Local Government Unit of Bulan headed by Mayor Marnelli Ballesteros-Robles launches the Municipal Eco Tourism as the celebration of 10th Fiesta sa Kabubudkan at Brgy. Sta. Remedios, Bulan, Sorsogon. One of the highlights of this celebration is the opening of the new developed Bariis Lake.
Before , the residents call this place as danao, but when it was developed as an eco park, they call it bariis lake. Bariis refers to the grass that grows around the lake. A big floating house was built at the center of the lake that is being connected by a footbridge from its shore. There is also a small floating cottage that can be used as transportation to cross the lake that is tied up by a rope in both ends and being pulled in order to move. There are some duck shape boats that can be used to rove over the lake. Many people also enjoys walking over the trails around the lake and have a picnic at the top of the hills. But smoking and drinking liquors inside the park is strictly prohibited. The Bariis Lake is a very good place for relaxing, and having fun. No wonder why a lot of people comes to visit it and enjoy the rich beauty of nature here in Bulan.
We can also find inside the eco park the the Japanese War Tunnel that was constructed in the year 1942 . This Japanese World War Tunnel is a silent witness to the atrocities of war. A strong and grim reminder of the peoples gallantry and defeat.. .of sacrifices and patriotism.. .of lost lives and of shattered dreams. May this will continue to remind those who are living today that there is no substitute in living a gratifying life than peace. Peace though elusive is worth mans dream.
