Service-oriented architecture (SOA) is a software design and software architecture design pattern based on discrete pieces of software providing application functionality as services to other applications. Service-Oriented Architecture is a business-driven IT architecture approach that supports integrating your business as linked, repeatable business tasks, or services DEFINITION A paradigm for organizing and utilizing distributed capabilities that may be under the control of different ownership domains. It provides a uniform means to offer, discover, interact with and use capabilities to produce desired effects consistent with measurable preconditions and expectations.

BENEFITS OF SOA
The main benefit of SOA is to allow simultaneous use and easy mutual data exchange between programs of different vendors without additional programming or making changes to the services These services are also reusable, resulting in lower development and maintenance costs and providing more value once the service is developed and tested
