History of GrameenPhone
GrameenPhone is the largest mobile phone company in Bangladesh. In the midst of lack of communication means, GrameenPhone has introduced an effective and user-friendly mobile phone network. It has put a positive impact on the lifestyle of the people of Bangladesh.

Telenor owns 51% of GP. It is the state-owned telecommunication company in Norway operating since 1885. Grameen Telecom the second largest shareholder owning 35% of GP, has been established by Grameen Bank.

Marubeni Corporation is one of the largest general trading and investment companies in Japan. The company owns 9.5% of GP. Gonofone Development Corp. which owns 4.5% of GP, is a telecommunications development company based in New York. In addition, three leading international financial institutions-the International Finance Corporation, Asian Development Bank and the Commonwealth Development Corporation -- are also shareholders of GrameenPhone. The three organizations each hold three per cent of preferred shares of GrameenPhone.

Network
GrameenPhone's network is divided into six zones according to the divisional borders: Dhaka Zone, Chittagong Zone, Khulna Zone, Sylhet Zone, Barisal Zone and Rajshahi Zone. Currently GP is operating in all six zones. The zone in which a subscriber is registered with GrameenPhone is that subscriber's Home Zone, and all other zones are Remote Zones.

Products:
Under Post Paid Service there are two products

GP-GP Regular
GP-GP Regular connects to all GrameenPhone mobiles and to other mobiles, subject to interconnection agreement with other mobile operators, within GrameenPhone's coverage area. This product has a credit limit of Tk. 1000 on airtime usage without any security deposit. There is no incoming charge.

GP-GP National
GP-GP National is another addition of post-paid products of GrameenPhone. This phone can connect all mobiles within the home zone and all GP mobiles throughout GP's coverage area. It has National Roaming facility and a flat rate airtime charge of Tk. 6 (+Tax) per minute for all calls to anywhere within GP's coverage.

Product migration: Migration of existing subscriptions over to Business Solutions Itemized billing: Call details including information such as date, time, duration and charge of any voice calls made are provided Pre-paid invoice: Itemized bills for pre-paid subscriber accounts Number reservation: Provides flexibility to reserve phone numbers from a particular series for current and future employees

Sim: Polli phone, djuice, Badhon, Easy , Easy gold, Business.Its price is 149 TK with 500 hundred free sms & 350 TK free talk time. Cell Phone: Recently this company try to make self position in cell phone market. For this reason they introduce two mobile phone in the market.

Sales Department
As its name suggests this department involves in the selling procedure of GP and thus enjoys the responsibility of direct interface with the customers. Responsibilities

Human Resources (HR) Department, an important part of Administration Division plays very vital role in the total functioning of GrameenPhone Employee recruitment, selection, transfer, promotion, training, performance appraisal - all these are conducted by HR division. GrameenPhone aims to build a full range of service all over the country. The company has targeted to build extensive network all over the country. For better coverage, GP has taken 1600 Km fiber optic cable network leased from Bangladesh Railway. In April 2004, GP had 750 base stations. Now till Oct05, it has 1750 base stations. Furthermore, considering the subscribers need of quality network and extensive coverage, the company is planning to set up another thousand base stations in the following year. Recently GP has doubled its speech quality 900GSM MHz to 1800GSm MHz. Already the company has expanded its network to 61 districts out of 64 districts and 400 upazillas out of 460 upazillas. Its the only company which covers the most of the land areas with its net work. Approximately 52% land area is covered by GrameenPhones network. In over all, GrameenPhone offers the most competitive network facility to its subscribers, and continue improving it.
