Chapter 1 lesson3

How do body systems work

together?
Skeletal, muscular, nervous
and excretory systems
Quick Review:
• Circulatory System:
• Made up of: heart, blood and blood vessels
• 1.Blood is a connective tissue, consists of a liquid part:
plasma
• And a solid part: Red blood cells, white blood cells and
platelets
• 2. Blood vessels: arteries, veins and blood capillaries
• 3. Heart: made of muscle tissue, it is a double pump. Do
you remember why?
• Respiratory System:
Made up of: trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli and lungs.
Open your text book to page 48-51, open your copybook and

answer this:
1. Why is the heart called a double pump?
2. The circulatory system transports 3 things through your body, what are they?
3. How does oxygen get from the air into your blood?
Skeletal and muscular systems
• Without your bones you will look like a jelly fish
• Without your muscles, you wouldn’t be able to move.
• The skeletal and muscular system work together.

• The skeletal system

• Made up of the bones, cartilage and ligaments
• Functions of the skeletal system:
• 1. body movements: sit , stand , move
• 2. protection of internal organs: brain, heart, lungs...etc...
• 3. Production of blood cells
• Answer this:
• Ligaments connect 2 structures to each other, what are
they?
The Muscular system:
• Made up of 3 types of muscles:

The Nervous system:
• 1. It enables you to sense your
environment and react to it.
• 2. It connects all your tissues and
your organs to your brain.
• 3. Made up of 2 parts: The central
nervous system and The peripheral
nervous system.
Study this chart well:
Also:
• Sensory organs have sensory nerves
called sensory receptors.
• Reflexes are automatic responses to
certain stimuli.
Excretory system:

• Wastes and ammonia are removed from the body

by the excretory system in the form of urine.
• Ammonia is a waste from certain cell functions, it
enters the blood and carried to the liver.
• The liver coverts ammonia to urea, which then
goes to the kidneys through blood.
• In the kidneys; urea and other waste products are
filtered producing urine.
• The urine passes through tubes called ureters and
goes to an organ called the bladder, and when
the bladder is full the urine is removed from the
body.
