Batam Singapore Cable System (BSCS) PT. TELKOM
BSCS is a submarine cable system connecting Batam Centre station (Batam) to Telin station
(Singapore). The total system length is around 72.93 km, connecting the landing sites through
six fiber pair cables, with stub cable is provided for future extension of the system. Initially, two
fiber pair is equipped with four channels of 10Gb/s each realizing an initial capacity of 80Gb/s.
Four other fiber pairs are purposely left as dark fibers for future expansion. At Batam, between
the BMH at Nongsa landing and Batam Center station, two distinguish land routes are utilized
to transmit/receive four 10Gb/s channels (40Gb/s) each. This design further increases the
reliability of the system.

SEA-ME-WE 1 & 2 - Indosat
On 14 February 1984, a consortium of 22 telecommunications
administrations from 21 countries signed the agreement for the
construction, operation and maintenance of the South-East Asia -
Middle-East - Western Europe Submarine Cable System.

The Submarine Cable System has eight segments linking Singapore to
France via Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Italy.
At a length of about 13,000 km and costing over S$800 million.

Segment A:- Singapore - Indonesia 641 km with 70 repeaters laid by CS
Vercors and manufactured by Submarcom. Opened for service 15
November 1984. Capacity 1260 circuits.
Segment B:- Indonesia - Sri Lanka 2638 km with 223 repeaters, laid by
CS Cable Venture and manufactured by NEC. Opened for service 31
December 1985. Capacity 1080 circuits.

Multiple access method used was Frequency Division Multiple Access
(FDMA). The Capacity was
measured with number of 4kHz BW channels. The cable system was
decommissioned June 1999.
Owners of the SEA-MEWE 2 Cable system counted
sixty (60) from all public and private
telecommunication administrations from forty seven (47)
countries. It was directly connected 13 countries
(Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Djibouti, Saudi
Arabia, Egypt, Cypress, Turkey, Italy, Tunisia, Algeria
and France) on three continents.

The Project was commenced in 1988 and it was
completed after six years in June 1994. Total
investment is around S$800M. At that time it was the
longest fiber optic undersea cable system ever laid. It
was around
18,000 kilometers long. The cable system was divided
in to seven Segments.

Fiber optical cables with regenerative repeaters were
used to transport digital signals. Multiple access method
used was Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) with
PDH technology. Transmission wavelength is 1.55 nm
at 565 Mbps per pair of fibers.

The Cable System was Decommissioned on October
2006 after 12 years of service.

SEA-ME-WE 2: SEGMENT 1: Singapore Indonesia
System 1040 km. SEA-ME-WE 2 was WFS Oct 2006.
Capacity 2 x 560 Mb/s

SEA-ME-WE 2: SEGMENT 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 Indonesia - Sri
Lanka India
System 5465 km. Capacity: 2 x 560 Mb/s
SEA-ME-WE 3 Indosat segment 14 & 16
SEA-ME-WE 3 or South-East Asia - Middle East - Western Europe 3 is an optical submarine
telecommunications cable linking those regions and is the longest in the world, completed in late 2000. It was
commissioned in March 2000. In November 1997 C&MA was signed by 92 International telecommunication
administrations. It includes 39 landing points in 33 countries and 4 continents from Germany to Australia.

It is 39,000 kilometres (24,000 m) in length and uses Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology with
Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transmission to increase capacity and enhance the quality of the signal,
especially over long distances (this cable stretches from North Germany to Australia and Japan). The cable
system itself has two fibre pairs, each carrying (as of May 2007) 48 wavelengths of 10 Gbit/s

transmission capacity of more
then 10 GB.

PGASCOM
PGASCOM was developed to serve the changes in the need for telecommunication networks in
Sumatera and Java Area.
The Company manages its network and optics along 1300 km from Singapore to Batam, Jambi, Grissik,
Prabumulih, Bandar Lampung, Kalianda, Anyer, to Cilegon. Next June, Pgascom will build fiber optic
network from Cilegon to Jakarta.
With a capacity of 160 Gbps, Pgascom selling bandwidth to telecom operators, mobile operators, network
access providers and large corporations.

Matrix Cable System (MCS)
Matrix Cable System (MCS) spans 1055km from
Singapore to Jakarta, with one active branch in Batam.

Between Singapore and Jakarta: have 60Gbps lit
capacity and 2.5Tbps maximum design capacity.
Two additional Branching Units provide the ability to
extend the network to Perth/Australia and to other
existing cable or SE Asian destinations.
Capacity: 4 fibre pairs each carrying 64 x 10 Gb/s.
Maximum capacity 2.6 Tb/s DWDM.
