In this Unit you are going to learn about the
adverbs and adjectives.
Observe the use of the adverbs and their
characteristics

ADVERBS AND ADJECTIVES
Adverbs are used to modify a verb, an adjective, or
another adverb:
[1] Mary sings beautifully
[2] David is extremely intelligent
[3] This car goes incredibly fast

In [1], the adverb beautifully tells us how Mary sings.
In [2], extremely tells us how intelligent David is.
Finally, in [3], the adverb incredibly tells us how fast the
car goes.


Adverbs
Many adverbs end in -ly.
They are formed by adding -ly to an adjective:







but notice: NOT all adverbs end in -ly

Adverbs and Adjectives
Adverbs and adjectives have important characteristics in
common However adverbs do not modify nouns,
either attributively or predicatively:
Adjetive Adverb
David is a happy child David is a happily child
David is happy David is happily
Adverbs give information about the manner, time or place of
an event or action.

MANNER Answer how :
1. She sings loudly in the bath
How does she sing? Loudly
2. The sky quickly turned blue
How fast did the sky turn blue? Quickly

TIME Answers when(time and frequency):

1. I'll be back tomorrow
When are you back? Tomorrow
2. I watch television sometimes
When do you watch television? Sometimes

PLACE answers where:

1. Put the box on the table.
Where should I put the box? On the table

They express one of the circumstances relating to an
event or action:
how it happened (manner),
when it happened (time),
where it happened (place).
