BAB 10:

CONVEYORS
INTRODUCTION
A conveyor system is a common
piece of mechanical handling
equipment that moves materials
from one location to another.
Conveyors are used for moving
supplies in a fixed line of travel.
TYPE OF CONVEYORS
In construction industry, most
conveyors are made by belt
conveyor.
Two basic types of conveyors:
- gravity-type roller or wheel
conveyor
- portable power-driven belt
conveyor.
CONVEYORS
The gravity-type roller or wheel conveyor

can be installed with one end lower than the
other to take advantage of gravity or it can be
installed level and the load pushed along
manually.
Several sections can be put together and
developed into a continuous system for
movement of material on the ship during
underway replenishment or vertical
replenishment.
The conveyor can also be used on piers, in
storerooms, or wherever a steady flow of supplies
is desired.

CONVEYORS
The power-driven belt conveyor
consists of an endless belt mounted on a frame
and driven by a pulley connected to a drive
motor.
The belt travels over a series of rollers or a
sliding bed.
The belt conveyor can be used to transport
materials over a fixed path of travel up inclines of
as much as 25 degrees.
It has less mobility and flexibility than truck and
scrapers
Mainly used when large volumes of material are
to be moved along one route.

Other Types of Conveyor
Truck Conveyor:
The Truck Conveyor is used with end dump
trucks to convey material from the truck up to 8
ft to the side.
The independent controls allow the operator to
consistently place the material exactly where it is
needed by extending or retracting the conveyor .
This unit is self contained with diesel hydraulic
power for versatility.
An easy and fast connection to the truck hitch, a
variable side to side conveyor length and
reversible belt direction make this a productive
truck attachment.

Other Types of Conveyor
Screw Conveyor:
Moves material of granular or fluid consistency by
a helical screw shaft that rotate concentrically
with a axis of a hollow pipe tube or open trough.
It can move material up an incline of 15 degrees
up to 45 degrees with the horizontal.
Frequently used to move cement in a concrete
plant.
When space allows, this is a very economical
method of elevating and conveying.
as the angle of inclination increases, the
allowable capacity of a given unit rapidly
decreases.
Screw Conveyor
Compressed Air/Pneumatic Conveyor:
For moving cement/finely ground material
With a compressed air in a pneumatic pipe or
hose
The cement hog is like a vacuum cleaner that
chews into loosely packed cement in a barges
storage bin or other such container.
Is more expensive than other types of conveyor
in both installation and operating cost.
