Good or bad?

Developed nations have outsourced manufacturing

and white collar jobs. That means less jobs for their
people. This has happened because manufacturing
work is outsourced to developing nations like China
where the cost of manufacturing goods and wages are
lower.
E.g. Programmers, editors, scientists and accountants,
tailors, craftsmen have lost their jobs due to
outsourcing to cheaper locations like India, China,
Malaysia, Cambodia, etc.
Globalization has led to
exploitation of labor.
Prisoners and child
workers are used to work
in inhumane conditions.
Safety standards are
ignored to produce cheap
goods. A good example
would be sweatshops
around Asia.
Job insecurity -
Earlier people had stable, permanent jobs. Now people
live in constant dread of losing their jobs to
competition. Increased job competition
internationally has led to reduction in wages and
consequently lower standards of living.
Terrorists have access to sophisticated weapons
enhancing their ability to inflict damage. Terrorists use
the Internet for communicating among themselves.
Companies have set up industries causing pollution in
countries with poor regulation of pollution.
Fast food chains like McDonalds and KFC are
spreading in the developing world. People are
consuming more junk food from these joints which
has an adverse impact on their health.
Local food chains have less market and are less
popular because of its less glamorous appeal to todays
society. Local industries are being taken over by
foreign multinationals.
The benefits of globalization
is not universal. The rich are
getting richer and the poor
are becoming poorer.
Foreign cultures are affecting
the local cultures through TV
and the Internet, leading
towards a loss of culture
situation.

Propaganda can be spread like
wildfire through the Internet.
The increase in prices has reduced the
governments ability to sustain social
welfare schemes in developed countries.
There is increase in human trafficking.
Multinational Companies and
corporations which were previously
restricted to commercial activities are
increasingly influencing political
decisions.
Globalization has created the concept of outsourcing.
Work such as software development, customer
support, marketing, accounting and insurance is
outsourced to developing countries like India. So the
company that outsourced the work enjoys the benefit
of lower costs because the wages in developing
countries is far lower than that of developed
countries.
Increased level of Employment - In developing
countries, there is often a lack of capital which hinders
the growth of domestic companies and hence,
employment, with globalisation, employment is
possible.
Not only that, women are afforded more job
opportunities, and get to be financially independent as
well, as compared to before. More women empowerment
and awareness given to women as compared to before
globalisation.
Increased competition forces companies to lower
prices. This benefits the end consumers.

Increased media coverage draws the attention of the
world to human right violations. This leads to
improvement in human rights.

Investment and Capital Flows - A lot of companies
have directly invested in developing countries to start
businesses

Foreign Trade free trade based on a mutual
agreement for everyone, a fair market for all.

Spread of Technical Know-How - The most obvious
example of the spread of knowledge is that the
Western world today are waking up to the benefits of
Ayurveda and Yoga, while the Western antibiotics are
flooding the Indian markets improving the quality of
life (and the longevity too) of people in India.

Spread of Culture

Spread of Education and Knowledge
Legal and Ethical Effects - These days due to
international courts of justice, these criminals can no
longer seek asylum in a foreign country, but will be
brought forward and there will be justice. Due to
globalization, there is also an understanding between
the security agencies and the police of two or more
different countries who will come together to
curb global terrorism.
Organizations for Environmental and Social
Concerns- WWF, Earth First, Natural Resources
Defenses Council, etc.

Malaysia
In the case of Malaysia, globalization has resulted in
opening up of large areas of fertile land for oil palm
and rubber plantation. As a result, the indigenous
people's right and culture have been eroded to make
way for development which benefits local elite and
consumers abroad.
The Philippines - In the Philippines 71.9% of the
people are living below the poverty line, and ironically,
most of them are from the countryside who produce
food for the whole population. 7 million of the
population are jobless, while 3.5 million are homeless.
Due to economic conditions, as many as 6 million
Filipino workers have migrated abroad to seek jobs.
Hong Kong alone has got around 70,000 migrant
Filipino women as domestic helpers and entertainers.
Cambodia - commercialization has led to the growth
of a huge illegal timber trade. The money from logging
has also been used to buy weaponry for the military
and the support of particular political parties. Cutting
off the forest has impacted the people who are living in
the forest, especially the tribal people. The logging is
also affecting the weather. Cambodia now experiences
extreme drought in some areas and flooding in others.
Cambodia - Household survey data suggest that about
18.2% of children aged 5 to 17 work for pay, or in family
enterprises. The average age by which a child starts
working in Cambodia is 10 years. Also, it is also more
common for girls than for boys to work. Many young
people are forced to work early in life and experience
drastic changes in culture and values. They have fewer
opportunities for education and personal development
and become victims of society ills.
Pakistan - globalization has resulted in racial and
religious discrimination, economic barriers, break
down in family relationships, and lack of community.
Also problems of getting jobs, inflation, currency
devaluation and growth of Islamic fundamentalism
have become widespread. The inflow of money from
the Gulf regions and aid/grants from World Bank has
changed the lifestyle of the people. The life of the
common people has become difficult. The basic
necessities of life have become very expensive and are
out of the reach of common people.
