Nashik (Nasik) is the venue where the next Kumbh Mela 2015 will be held
at the banks of river Godavari. Kumbh mela in Nashik happens after a period of
12 years. Around 10 million (1 crore) pilgrims are expected to arrive in and take
holy bath in the river Godavari to cleanse their body and souls.

September 13, 2015, Second Shahi Snan (Holy Bath), Main bathing day.

18th September 2015, Third Shahi Snan (Holy Bath).


About Nashik: Nashik is one of the most popular cities of Maharashtra
state. The city is well connected by all the mediums (Road, Railway and
Flights) of transportation. The city is around 170 and 210 kms away from
Mumbai and Pune respectively.

History Behind Kumbh Mela in Nasik: According to the history of
Hindu religion, Nasik is among the four places where the amrit (elixir) from a
Kumbha (pitcher) when the gods and demons were fighting to gain its
ownership so that they become immortal after drinking the elixir which was
found after Samudra manthan.

Previous Kumbh Mela was celebrated in Allahabad which was a Maha
Kumbh, it happened after a gap of 144 years. More than 100 million Hindu
devotees and tourists are believed to have participated in this one of kind
religious and spiritual event.
History of Akhadas in Nashik: Currently there are 14 Akhadas out of
which 11 belong to the Shaiva sect and 3 to the Vaishnava sect.

Before 1838, Sadhus (Saints) from both the Akshadas used to take the holy dip
in Trimbakeshwar. Then a clash took place between them, and after that on
the request of Peshwa ruler, Shaiva sadhus started performing rituals at
Trimbakeshwar and Vaishnavs moved to Ramakunda in Nasik.
