CONTINUOUS WRITING
1. Choose the topic that you are most familiar with.


2.Write out the main points.
You may brainstorm or use a mind map to list the
important point.




3. Divide your writing into three parts:
a)Introduction-Make it brief, for example, about a few
sentences or a short paragraph. It should contain a
definition or explanation of the topic you are writing.
b)Body This is the main part of your writing. It may
have 4 to 5 paragraph. Each paragraph contain one
main point with elaborations. The paragraphs are
logically linked with one another.
c)Conclusion Sum up your writing. What is the
message you want to convey? It consists of a few
lines or a short paragraph.


Write out your composition in a clear and logical
order.
WORKSHOP 2

Write a composition of about 350

words on one of the following
topics.

1. The best movie I have watched
2. Suggest ways of reducing the
crime rate in Malaysia
3. The most unforgettable accident
4. Write a story ending with:
we wished we could have
stayed there a few days more.
5. Forest
A 44-50 The language is entirely accurate. A few
slips. Sentence structure is varied and
sophisticated.
Wide vocabulary used with precision.
Punctuation and spelling are accurate.
Paragraphs are well-planned, have unity
and are linked.
Topic is addressed with consistent
relevance.
Able to arouse readers interest and
sustained throughout the writing.

B 38-43 The language is accurate but a number of
minor errors.
Sentences show some variation in length
and type.
Vocabulary is wide enough with some
precision.
Punctuation and spelling are almost
accurate.
Written in paragraphs and usually linked
appropriately.
Relevant to the topic and the interest of the
reader is aroused and sustained through
most of the composition.

C 32-37 The language is largely accurate.
Simple structures are used without
errors; mistakes may occur when more
sophisticated structures are used.
Tendency to use one type of structure.
Vocabulary is wide enough but may
lack precision.
Punctuation and spelling are generally
accurate. Errors may occur when
complex ones are used.
Written in paragraphs which may show
some unity.
Some interest is aroused but not
sustained.

D 26-31 The language is sufficiently accurate with
patches of clarity when simple vocabulary
and structures are used.
Various sentence type and length but the
purpose is not clearly seen.
Vocabulary is adequate but not developed to
show precision.
Punctuation is generally correct.
Simple words are spelt correctly but more
spelling errors will occur.
Paragraphs shows lack of planning or unity.
Topic is addressed with some relevance but
lacking in liveliness and interest value.

E 20-25 Meaning is never in doubt, but single word
errors are quite frequent and serious to
hamper reading.
Simple structures may be accurate but not
sustained. Some correct isolated sentences.
Vocabulary is limited and either too simple.
Simple words may be spelt correctly but
frequent mistakes in spelling and
punctuation.
Paragraphs lack unity or haphazardly
arranged.
Show some relevance to the topic but only a
partial treatment is given
CONTINUOUS WRITING
50 MARKS AWARDED BY IMPRESSION
U(i) 14-19 Meaning is fairly clear with frequent
single-word errors that could be
corrected without rewriting the whole
sentence. Some serious errors.
Very few accurate sentences.
Frequent errors may cause blurring.
Sentences will be simple and often
repetitive.
Punctuation will sometimes used
correctly but sentence separation errors
may occur.
Paragraphs may lack unity or there may
be no paragraphs at all.
CONTINUOUS WRITING
50 MARKS AWARDED BY IMPRESSION
U(ii) 8-13 Able to get some sense but errors are
multiple in nature, requiring the reader to
read and re-read before being able to
understand.
May be only a few accurate but simple
sentences.
Content may be comprehensible but the
incidence of linguistic errors is so high
as to make meaning blur.
May also be far too short of the required
number of words.

U(iii)
0-7 Make little or no sense at all.
Where occasional patches of
clarity occur, marks should be
awarded.
Almost entirely impossible to read.
The Mark 0 will only be awarded if
the task makes no sense at all from
the beginning to end.
May also be far too short of the
required number of words.

Remember that the candidate is
working within a strict time limit in
examination conditions.
Use the correct TENSE (past,
present, future..)

A 44-50 Excellent. Slips or almost error free.
B 38-43 Excellent with some minor errors.
C 32-37 Simple but accurate/ Ambitious but with
errors (SWEs).
D 26-31 Patches of accuracy.
E 20-25 Isolated correct sentences. Meaning clear.
