Indian Mining Core sector of the economy contributing 2.1-2.

ng 2.1-2.4 % per annum to GDP; Produces 87 minerals with over USD 38-40 billion per
annum of mineral production in 3,461 mines. Top mineral production includes Iron ore, lead, zinc, manganese, bauxite, chromite, and copper.
Domestic coal has poor quality, regulatory and supply issues leading to large demand-supply gap.
Mining Technology Equipment & Services (MTES) A high-growth large customer market for international technologies and solutions; Small
domestic capability with presence of few Indian companies only; Small-large foreign companies successfully doing business in India (Caterpillar,
John Deere, Hitachi, JCB, Ingersoll-Rand and so on).

Potash, Rock Phosphate, Nickel/ Tin, Tungsten, Rough Diamond.
Coal Imports Coal imports is a major source to meet rising demand;
Imports rose by 20% to 106 mn tonnes (2013) from year ago. Coking Coal
is 2
nd
biggest contributor to total coal imports. India has 12 major & 17
