DEFINITION
Confined space is a fully or partial enclosed space where there is
a risk of serious injury from hazardous substances or conditions
within the confined space.
A confined space entry (CSE) means not only complete body
entry, but also inserting a head into pipe ends

CONFINED SPACE HAZARDS
Oxygen deficiency (less than 20 %)
Oxygen enrichment (more than 21,5 %)
Fire and explosion (CSE not allowed if the flammable concentration is
greater than 10 % LFL)
Toxic hazards (action has be taken if more than 50 % OEL)
Corrosive hazards
Physical hazards (noise, thermal stress, electric shock, ionising radiation)
Unsafe conditions (restricted working space, poor visibility)

Inert gas supply (ensure that inert atmosphere is maintained)
Breathing air and communication system (requirements list)
Other equipment (access)
People
- Number minimum in the confined space
- Console operator (monitor and record the conditions)
-Attendant (breathing air supplies, line of communication)should be
wearing a full inert gas suit and breathing apparatus, and be ready to
respond in an emergency
- Supervisor and one or more assistants

MANAGING SPECIALIST CONTRACTORS
Comprehensive safety and operating manual covering the
procedures and instructions needed to perform inert gas entry
work
Training certificate for the persons selected for the work
Confirmation that all selected persons are qualified (FTW)
Written report of similar work undertaken
Incident reporting procedures and safety records
The specialist contractor should provide :
