Evolution of the bicycle

The Draisine
The first bicycle-like invention was
the 1817 Draisine.
It appeared in Germany, patented
in France in 1818
It was named after its inventor,
Karl von Drais, a German state
forester.
It was made of wood, had no
pedals, and was moved by
pushing the ground with your feet


the bone shaker
Also known as the velocipede ,It
was developed around 1863 and
sparked a fashion craze briefly
during 1868-70
The use of metal frames reduced
the weight and increased mobility
and overall control
The velocipede earned the name
of bone shaker because of its
rigid frame

the high-wheel bicycle
Developed in the 1870s by
Eugene Meyer, the high-wheel
was like the boneshaker but
with a higher wheel for
increased speeds

It came due to the
development of wire-spoke
tension wheel

Safety Bicycle
Developed in the late 1880s
The first bike to be called a
"safety" was designed by the
British engineer Henery J.
Lawson in 1876.
In 1885, John Kemp Starley
came out with the first
commercially successful safety
bicycle he named the Rover
It was deemed the safety
bicycle due to the two wheels
of identical - or nearly identical
- size, and a chain-driven rear
wheel which made it more
stable and gave the rider more
control
Suspended Mountain Bike
A mountain bike or mountain
bicycle (abbreviated MTB or
ATB (all terrain bicycle)) is a
bicycle created for off-road
cycling
In the past mountain bikes had
a rigid frame and fork. In the
early 1990s, the first mountain
bikes with suspension forks
were introduced which made
cycling on rough terrain easier
and less stressful.
Hand powered Bicycles
A hand cycle is a type of human
powered land vehicle powered by the
arms rather than the legs, as on a
bicycle
The "off road" handcycle is another
type of handcycle. This handcycle is
different from other handcycles in that
there are two wheels in front and one
behind and it has high gear ratio
range.
This gives the cycle the ability to
tackle steep slopes
