Pulsatile Drug Delivery System
(PDDS) didefinisikan sebagai
suatu sistem penghantaran
obat dengan pelepasan obat
pada waktu yang tepat dan
dalam dosis yang tepat.
Sistem pelepasan ini
umumnya didasarkan pada
irama sirkadian pada tubuh
Kontol pelepasan PDDS dapat
berupa kontrol terhadap
waktu, kontrol terhadap
tempat pelepasan atau
kombinasi dari keduanya.

Tujuan dibuatnya PDDS biasanya untuk mengatasi :
1. Chronopharmacotherapy of diseases which shows
circadian rhythms in their pathophysiology.
2. Avoiding the first pass metabolism e.g. protein and
peptides2
3. For which the tolerance is rapidly exists,
4. For targetting specific site in intestine e.g. colon,
5. For time programmed administration of hormone
and drugs,
6. For drugs having the short half life and their
mechanism.
