A team of biologists,
anthropologists, economists,
and representatives of
indigenous communities
founded the Ministry of the
Environment in Brazil in 1934
when they established the
Forest Code and the Water
Code intended to preserve
biodiversity throughout the
Amazon and its surrounding
regions. In turn, they continued
to launch projects in response
to climate change,
deforestation, vehicle
emissions, and emissions of
greenhouse gases throughout
Brazil.
The Amazon Region Protected
Areas Project was launched by
the Ministry of the Environment in
2003. The project aims to set
priority zones throughout the
Amazon Rainforest in which
biodiversity is threatened by
deforestation, carbon emissions,
industrialization, and forest fires

ARPA objectives include storing
large quantities of carbon and
keeping it out of the
atmosphere, maintaining
sufficient tree cover to preserve
rainfall patterns, and providing
local communities with
alternative resource
management plans
-Established nearly 283,000 km of
protected areas for the purpose
of conservation
-Developed 125,000 km of
neglected parks in order to meet
effective management
standards
-Created 89,000 km of
sustainable use reserves to
benefit local communities
-Established the Tumucamaque
Mountains National Park in 2002
in the state of Apam, which is
the world's largest tropical forest
national park and the second
largest national park in the world

-The Amazon Fund was
established by the MMA in
2008, and aims to raise funds to
prevent and monitor
deforestation and promote the
sustainable use of forests in the
Amazon Biome
-The Fund is in charge of the
management of public forests
and protected areas,
environmental monitoring and
surveillance, ecological and
economic zoning, land use
planning and regulation,
conservation and sustainability
of biodiversity, and the
recovery of deforested regions
-The target audience of this
organization are activists,
environmentalists, and
those interested in
promoting the
conservation of the
Amazon Biome
-The MMA advertises their
projects through public
campaigning, various forms
of social media, and daily
news posts that highlight
the specific objectives of
the organization
I believe that the goals of the
Ministry of the Environment are
essential to the preservation of
the Amazon region; the issues
of deforestation and
greenhouse gas emissions will
remain prevalent unless efforts
are made to conserve energy
and limit activities such as
industrial logging and habitat
destruction. For this reason, I
would be willing to promote this
organization and donate to
projects such as the Amazon
Fund to maintain the areas rich
biodiversity.

The MMA has already achieved
many of its goals in habitat
preservation, and, for many,
these goals have had a life-
changing impact. By promoting
biodiversity, we are better
prepared to face
unpredictable environmental
conditions and continue to
benefit from the sustainable use
of biological resources,
including climate moderation
and the removal of greenhouse
gases in the atmosphere.
