Competencies:

1. Use a model to demonstrate inhalation

and exhalation.
2. Demonstrate the path of inhaled and
exhaled air.
3. Identify the parts of respiratory system
where air passes during inhalation and
exhalation.
Objectives:

Students are expected to:

1.construct a respiratory system
chart.
2.name the parts and function of
the respiratory system.
3. trace the path of inhaled and
exhaled air.
Content:
1. The parts of the
respiratory system
are the nose/mouth,
pharynx, larynx,
trachea, bronchial
tubes bronchioles, at
diaphragm and lungs.

2. The two gases the

we inhaled and exhaled
are the oxygen and
carbon dioxide.
Prior Knowledge
1. When you breathe in, air
(especially oxygen)
enters through your
nose or mouth.
2. The air your breathe in,
passes to a tube called
pharynx connecting the
nose down through the
larynx.
3. Respiration is the act of
breathing air in and out.
4. The air that we breathe in
is inhale and the air that
we breathe out is exhale.
New Knowledge

1. Breathing is simply the mechanical

process taking air into the lungs
(inhaling) and letting it out (exhaling).
2. One breathing cycle consist of one
inhalation and one exhalation.
3. In the lungs, the bronchi are divided into
smaller and smaller tubes called
bronchioles ending in the air sacs called
alveoli.
4. Oxygen enters into the blood vessels,
surrounding the air sacs.
Resources:
1.Ecaldre,F.&Rasalan,E.(2006). Science, Health & Environment.
Quezon City. Abiva publishing house, Inc.

Materials:
1. Picture of the respiratory system cut into
puzzle pieces.
2. Labels of the respiratory system
3. Manila paper, masking tape, scissors, paper,
arrows (blue) 7 pcs, and red 7 pcs.) per group.
Process

A. Introduction

 Prepare several sets of the above materials ahead of

the time according to the number of groups desired.
 Start the activity by asking the class where they think
air first enter the body. Accept all the answer.
 Tell the class that they will do activity by group. Prior to
this introduce the terms like inhale and exhale, breathe
path and other vocabulary terms which you think are
difficult for them to understand.
 Distribute the materials to each group assist them to read
and understanding the instructions for the activity sheet
and now the materials will be used.
 Allow enough time to share their ideas in analyzing the
correct pathway of the air giving in the lungs.
. Interaction

1. After doing their work, let them post their work

on the wall enough for everybody to see. Call
only one pupil from the whole class to share
what their group has learned from the text
they read. The others will just share the other
information not mentioned by the reporters.

2. Process the finished outputs and enhance a

short lecture or presentation on the flow of
air as it passes through each part. This will be
done to check and enhance their
understanding of the previous task.

3. Ask question to come up with the concepts

desired from the lesson such as.
What are the parts of the
respiratory system?
What gas is inhaled?
What gas is exhaled?
Where does exchange of
gases happen?
Check their constructed
model of the respiratory Picture of respiratory system

system. Answer Key:

Call one or two pupils to 1. Nose

2. Pharynx
trace and show to the class 3. Larynx
4. Trachea
the flow of the air in the 5. Left Bronchus
6. Right Bronchus
diagram. 7. Bronchioles
8. Alveoli
9. Diaphragm
Integration:
Clean air is important in our body to
maintain and stabilize good health.

Assignment:
Find the meaning of the following:

Pharynx Bronchioles
Larynx Alveoli
Trachea Lungs
Inhale Diaphragm
Exhale Bronchial Tubes

following labels to the
given picture of the
respiratory system).
