HISTORY OF Wire-less technology

A Special thanks to Guglielmo Marconi
who opened the way for mordern
Wireless communications in 1895.
In beginning, wireless communications
has developed into a key element of
modern society.

Guglielmo Morconi

From satellite transmission, radio and

television broadcasting to the now
ubiquitous mobile telephone, wireless
communications has revolutionized the
way societies function.

WHAT IS WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY?

F Wireless Technologies are secure specification

that allows users to access information instantly via
handheld wireless devices such as mobile phones,
pagers, two-way radios, Smartphone's and

communicators .

F Wireless Technologies really provide the

convenient and easy approach to communications
between different areas that are very behind from the
different types of the modern and the latest technologies.

It was established and came in the field of

Computer Networking Technologies from the last three

years and today they are grown rapidly and become a very
good and useful source of communication among the
people and all the technologies of present era.

WHY WIRE-LESS TECHNOLOGY IS NEEDED?

A wireless technology is a technology in
which use of wire for communicating each other
is eliminated. Electromagnetic waves has been
used in many of these technologies. Radio and
TV broadcasting to the Mobile phone and Blue
tooth are examples of wireless technologies.
More mobile and portable so that the same
equipment with wireless communications can
easily be moved from one spot to another, either
continuously or periodically.
Less susceptible to ground potential rise
because no cabling is needed.
Data would be very expensive or difficult to
retrieve using wired communications, so far
many peoples prefer Wire-Less
communications.

Different types of Wireless Technologies:

Wi-Fi
ZigBee
Bluetooth

Wimax

Wi-Fi Technology :
Wi-Fi is commonly called as wireless LAN.

It is one of those networks in which high frequency radio waves

are required for transmission of data from one place to another.

WiFi operates on several hundreds feet between two places of

data transmission.

This technology only works on high frequency radio signals.

Otherwise, it will not work properly.

Frequency band is the 2.4Ghz band.

Range of 100-150 feet

Nowadays this technology is used as office or home network

and in many electronic devices.

Wireless LAN or WiFi is divided into three main parts on which

its whole working depends and all of its applications also depend on
these parts i.e. infrastructure mode, ad hoc network and mixed
network.

ZigBee Technology:
A type of low cost, low power and wireless technology
which is used for the different purposes at ultra low power
is known as Zig bee technology.

Low power radios on the basis of standard personal

wireless networking are used by a protocol to enhance the
technology. Distances between devices is 30-300
feet.

It offers excellent wireless control path network.

It was not proposed or designed for the excellent or
high speed data transfer rate applications. But it was
designed for working on excellent long battery timings at
low cost and also at ultra low power consumption.
It is an ideal technology which operates at low power
and low cost and used for wireless monitoring and control.

Bluetooth technology:
Bluetooth is an excellent protocol for wireless communication because it's
capable of transmitting data at nearly 1MB/s, while consuming 1/100th of the
power of Wi-Fi.

There are no charges for delivering a message using Bluetooth unlike using
SMS text messaging. Very short range of only 33 feet (approx 10m)
Frequency band is the 2.4Ghz band.

The most typical application example is communication between a mobile

phone (or PDA) and a laptop. For many handheld Bluetooth applications low
power consumption is very important.

Wimax Technology:
One of the important wireless technologies
another technology is present that is called as
Wimax technology.

It is defined as a type of the wireless

networking technology that is required to transmit
the information in the form of microwaves
through different type of methods of wireless
networking from point to point or multi point
access top the devices which are portable in
nature.
Addresses the "first-mile/last-mile"
connection for longer
distances (5-30 miles) and faster rates (45-75
Mbps)

Wi- Max device

Voice
communication:
Voice communication is also the
types of wireless technologies.

In this types all the types of

technologies related to the
communication through the voice is
included such as communication through
different types of cell phones, through
different types wireless internet
technologies etc

How does wireless communication work?

A central unit communicates wirelessly with a range of devices which meter and
control the modern home.
Wireless communication only uses a small amount of power. Only a small
bandwidth is required to provide measurement data or messages about switching
appliances on and off. This means that its possible to use considerably less power
to communicate. In fact, power consumption is so low that you can use batteries,
rather than mains power, for sensors and meters.
This allows considerable freedom to position the equipment where it is needed,
irrespective of whether there is a power point in the vicinity or not.

Wireless communication
is based on:
A local master (one unit), which
controls the communication .
a number of slaves, which supply
measurement data or provide orders
such as switch on and switch off .
The common and open standard
ensures that any master can
communicate with slaves supplied by
different companies.
It is also a requirement that the
master can communicate information
via a fixed format, thereby ensuring
that remote reading, remote control.

MASTER
The master is a mini PC that controls
the dialogue with the slaves.

SLAVES
Slaves are meters, on/off switches.

The master acts as a sort of liaison

officer that gives orders locally while
also reporting to, and receiving
messages from, the server.

It is a other types of hardware that

control something (e.g. a
thermostatic valve).

This ensures that the unit can

take remote readings, and
operates both as a monitor and
as a remote controller.

Slaves carry out an order to adjust

a setting, or send messages back
with information on a measurement
value or similar.

Different commercial wireless

Examples:
Radio:

FM and AM Radio is the first to use wireless

technology commercially.

This brings wireless technology to the common man

Television:

Another step ahead with wireless technology is

Television broadcast.

This brings wireless technology even closer.

Mobile :

Mobile technology such as GSM and CDMA

made a revolution on communication and it

uses time division, frequency division and code
division multiplexing.
These are the latest and hottest example of
wireless technologies.

GPS:

Latest and greatest technology which uses

wireless is Global positioning system radio
waves are used for this.

Two Images of Wireless Communications in Substations:

Angelic:
Rapid installations.
Easy maintenance.
Avoided ground potential rise problems.
Mobility.
Safety due to remote operations.
Warmth of a van outside a freezing
substation.
More data and additional capabilities
Devilish:
Eavesdropping on data.
Unauthorized control commands.
Unreliable, disrupted communications in
the noisy
substation environment.
Hackers, viruses, and worms.

BENFITS:
1

Less expensive.

More rapid implementation.

Less experienced technicians can often be

used.

Remote Area Connectivity

Anywhere, Anytime Work

Emergency Alerts

CONCLUSION
Data being transmitted is not very time-sensitive, and can tolerate
delays.
Data can be lost for the length of the delay, or
Systems on either side buffer the data until communications become
available
again, and the data can be resent.
Wireless communications are temporary
Due to short-term need or emergency situation
Wireless communications systems are for backup or redundancy
Infrequent usage where possible delays are acceptable.
Data is transmitted and received via cell phones and/or mobile data
terminals by utility users.
Obviously, when new functions can be cost justified by using
inexpensive wireless communications.

Though the Wireless

communications consists
some limitations like these
are temporary ,
inconsistent standards but
its very user friendly,fast,
accurate, easy for the
