"When light crosses a transparent

material,

wavelength.
This phenomenon is called Raman
scattering and
is the result of RAMAN EFFECT.

Raman Spectroscopy

Raman spectroscopy is a method of determining a compound

based on the movement of molecules, called molecular
vibration.
Compounds measured in Raman Spectrometer is a
compound that changes the polarization due to vibration.
Spectroscopy is related to the scattering of photons when the
sample is irradiated with a laser.
Raman spectroscopy can be used for qualitative and
quantitative analysis and sample phase can be solid, liquid,
and gas.
On the purpose of qualitative analysis, Raman can explain
the types of compounds while to be able to explain the
qualitative sample concentrations were tested based on
intensity.

Working Principle of Raman

Spectroscopy
If the laser beam on the sample, photons are absorbed by the sample
molecules then dissipated.
Raman scattering occurs when the inelastic collisions between molecules
with radiation sources.
Raman energy = hv E
Stokes energy = hv E
Anti-stokes Energy = hv + E
Raman spectroscopy measures the energy of photons instead of
molecules which time the photon energy is inversely proportional to the
vibrational energy.
In Raman spectroscopy is used Stokes shift due to the larger probability.
Most photon Raman scattering shifted to larger wavelengths (Stokes
shift) and a small shift to smaller wavelengths (anti-Stokes shift).

Raman scattering
According to Raman :
A beam of light through a transparent
substance will undergo scattering when the
energy dissipated and comprises almost the
entire frequency range of the incident light, it
is called Rayleigh scattering.
But if there are additional scattering at certain
frequencies above or a little below the
frequency of the incident light, it is called
Raman scattering

RAMAN EFFECT
Raman effect discussed about the Stokes shift
and anti-Stokes shift. This is the wavelength shift
of the inelastic scattered radiation that provide
structural information. In Raman, the photon
energy can be shifted either higher or lower,
depending on the state of the studied molecular
vibrations.

Summary
We have the general theories of scattering
