Storytelling therapy

What is Therapeutic
Storytelling?
Stories use metaphor and imagery to
change the way we see our lives and
the world, offering healing and growth
to everyone - teller and listener alike.
They connect us to each other and
help us find meaning and hope.
Therapeutic storytelling can change
the way we see our lives and the
world. Using metaphor, stories offer
healing to everyone.

'Therapeutic Storytelling
Intervention'(TSI)
a powerful life skills development, values
education and therapeutic process
developed by Ron Phillips M.A. (Psychology)
M.F.T., (Marriage and Family Therapist)
is a teaching methodology using the age-old
art of storytelling as a very effective means
of bringing about positive behavioural
change in the lives of children and adults.

Art therapy

Art therapy is a mental health

profession in which clients, facilitated
by the art therapist, use art media,
the creative process, and the resulting
artwork to explore their feelings,
reconcile emotional conflicts, foster
self-awareness, manage behaviour
and addictions, develop social skills,
improve reality orientation, reduce
anxiety, and increase self-esteem.
(American Arttheraphy Association)

requires knowledge of visual art (drawing,

painting, sculpture, and other art forms)
and the creative process, as well as of
human development, psychological, and
counseling theories and techniques.
art therapists elicit their clients inherent
capacity for art making to enhance their
physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

Art therapy helps people resolve

conflicts, improve interpersonal
skills, manage problematic
behaviors, reduce negative stress,
and achieve personal insight. Art
therapy also provides an opportunity
to enjoy the life-affirming pleasures
of art making.

Art therapy attends to a student's verbal and nonverbal

communications with the aid of a master's level therapist
who is trained in art, psychology, and the therapy process.
The art therapist is qualified to observe and analyze
behaviors, art products and processes, a student's
communications, and formalizing art therapy assessments
and treatment plans for students for adherence to
educational goals and benchmarks. As a whole, art therapy
can offer students the opportunity to work through
obstacles that may be impeding their educational success
while facilitating appropriate social behavior and promote
healthy affective development so students can become
more receptive to their educational environment.

psychological problems.This use of
books as a means of providing such
help is known as Bibliotherapy

Music Therapy

clinical and evidenced-based use of

music interventions to accomplish
individualized goals within a
therapeutic relationship by a
credentialed professional.
consists of using music
therapeutically to address physical,
psychological, cognitive, behavioral
and/or social functioning.

With young children, music therapy

provides a unique variety of music
experiences in an intentional and
developmentally appropriate manner
to effect changes in a childs
behavior and facilitate development
of his/her communication,
social/emotional, sensori-motor,
and/or cognitive skills.

Why music therapy?

Provides pleasurable learning that
promotes success.
A universal language that crosses all
cultural lines.
Music is highly motivating, yet it can
also have a calming and relaxing effect.
Enjoyable music activities are designed
to be success-oriented and make
children feel better about themselves.

Music therapy can help a child

manage pain and stressful situations.
Music can encourage socialization,
self-expression, communication, and
motor development.
Because the brain processes music in
both hemispheres, music can
stimulate cognitive functioning and
may be used for remediation of some
speech/language skills.
