Electric fittings can be divided into 4 major

parts
1.
2.
3.
4.

Electric Appliances
Wirings
Generators, Invertors and MCBs
Type of supply

Electric Appliances
Can be divided into:
Low Power consumption appliances
Medium Power consumption appliances
High Power consumption appliances

Electric Appliances
Low Power
appliances

consumption

Power consumption below 1500

watt.
Power supply of single phase
will work for such appliances
considering that the overall power
output is less than 7500 watt.
Capacity of the wire used must
be at least 20% higher than the
required output

Electric Appliances
Low
Power
appliances

consumption

Equipments include bulbs, fans,

tube lights, small
ironing
machines, heaters.
Solid wires can be used if no
movement is there since they have
very low flexibility.

Electric Appliances
Medium
Power
consumption appliances
Power consumption between
1500 to 5000 watt.
Power supply of single
phase will work for such
appliances considering that the
overall power output is less
than 7500 watt generally the
overall
consumption
in
a
factory of such appliances is
the highest so a three phase
connection is suggested

Electric Appliances
Medium
Power
consumption appliances
Capacity of the wire used
must be at least 25% higher
than the required output
Equipments include motors,
air conditioners, medium scale
ironing
machines
sewing
machines
Wires to be used are
specifically stranded or braided
according to the capacity

Electric Appliances
High Power consumption
appliances
Power consumption above
5000 watt.
Power supply of three
phase will work for such
appliances.
Capacity of the wire used
must be at least 30% higher
than the required output.

Electric Appliances
High
consumption
appliances

Power

Equipments
include
heavy machines, fusing
machines,
washing
machines etc
Wires with stranded and
braided cores are required

WIRES AND ITS FITTING

Types of wires on the

basis of make:
Solid wire
Stranded wire
Braided wire

WIRES AND ITS FITTING

Stranded wire
Stranded

wire
is
composed of a number of
small gauge wire bundled
or wrapped together to
form a larger conductor.

Stranded

wire is more
flexible than solid wire of
the same total crosssectional area.

WIRES AND ITS FITTING

Stranded wire
Stranded

wire tends to be a
better conductor than solid wire
because the individual wires
collectively comprise a greater
surface area.

Connections

betweencircuit
boardsin PCB,A.C.line cords for
appliances, welding electrode
cables; control cables connecting
moving machine parts; mining
machine cables; trailing machine
cables; and numerous others.

WIRES AND ITS FITTING

Braided wire
A braided wire is composed of a

number of small strands of wire

braided together.
Similar to stranded wires, braided

wires are better conductors than

solid wires.
Braided wires do not break easily

when flexed.
Braided wires are often suitable as

an electromagnetic shield in noisereduction cables.

POWER SUPPLY
Power or

electricity is
supplied in two
types
Single phase
Three phase

POWER SUPPLY
Single phase electricity
The type of current that is supplied from

electricity grid is Alternating Current (or AC).

In a single-phase supply, a single alternating
current is supplied through a single wire,
In India a single-phase supply is a 230V

supply through two wires.

Single-phase has a limit to the load it can

handle typically that number is set to 7.5 kW

POWER SUPPLY
Three Phase electricity
A three-phase circuit is a combination of

three single-phase circuits

In a three-phase system 3 wires carry
alternating current with a definite time
offset in between the voltage waves.
The sine waves of three-phase voltage
are separated by1/3rd of the cycle.

POWER SUPPLY
Three Phase electricity
Powersupplied

to each of the three

phases of a three-phase circuit also has a
sinusoidal waveform, and the total threephase power supplied to a balanced
three-phase circuit remains constant.

3-phase supply is 415 V supply through 4

wires and in the house the line can be

divided to give 230V at individual point.

POWER SUPPLY
Comparison between 3 phase and 1 phase electricity
Three-phase machines and controls can be smaller,

lighter in weight, and more efficient than comparable

single-phase equipment.
More power is supplied to them in the same period than
can be supplied by a single-phase power circuit.
Three-phase machines and controls are more complex
and expensive.
Only about 75 percent as much copper wire is required
for distributing three-phase power as is required for
distributing the same amount of single-phase power.
Both three-phase and single-phase devices can be
powered from a three-phase supply

GENERATOR, INVERTORS AND

MCBs
Generator/ Inverter
An electric generator is a device that converts

mechanical energy obtained from an external source

into electrical energy as the output
The source of mechanical energy may vary widely

from a handcrankto aninternal combustion engine.

Installation needs to be done in a separate building

from the actual plant

selector for input voltage, while others
automatically adapt to the supply voltage.
