INTRODUCTI
ON

I did my industrial summer training from ARG CITY, ROSEWOOD , a residential

township project of ARG GROUP .
That was the largest project of ARG group situated on Jaipur- Ajmer highway.
The whole construction work was under SHYAMKRIPA ENTERPRISES.
The whole project was divided into two phases.
Phase one was started in year 2011 and phase two will start in 2015.
Phase one includes 14 apartment blocks and 42 villas.
When I reached at site, the structural work of many of the blocks & foundation of
villas was completed.

PROJECT
SPECIFICATIONS

Area of construction site

No. of blocks

= 45 acres.
= 14 blocks.

Area of a block

= 50,000 sq. ft.

No. of flats in each block

= 28 flats.

No. of villas
Area of a villa

= 42 villas.
= 2200 sq. ft.

Club house area

= 36,000 sq. ft.

Landscaping area

= 16 % of site area.

Road width

= 40 ft with 16 ft parking.

Estimated whole project cost = 500 crores.

Estimated construction cost

= 300 crores.

SITE
OBSERVATIONS

SITE CLEARANCE AND

EXCAVATION

Site clearance:--

All the unwanted things like trees, stones etc are removed and site is perfectly
leveled.
Site clearance can be done manually or by using machines likes tractor etc .

Excavation:-The removal of earth usually to allow the construction of basement or foundation.

Methods of excavation:-Manually
Mechanically
At my training site the excavation was done mechanically with the help of
excavator.

Excavation work

FOUNDATION
Foundation is the part of structure which is in direct contact with ground and
transmit the loads of structure to the ground.

Types of foundation:- Shallow Foundation

Deep Foundation
At my training site shallow foundation was used in VILLAS construction.

Data from site:-Depth of foundation =42 inches

Width of foundation = 30 inches
Thickness of P.C.C.

= 4 inches

Raft Foundation:-Common foundation for all the columns and walls, provided to spread loads of
the structure to a larger area.
Raft foundation is provided to increase the bearing power of soil.
Raft foundation is constructed by providing a R.C.C. slab on a concrete bed
At my training site raft foundation was used in apartment blocks.

Data from site:-Thickness of P.C.C.

= 6

Thickness of R.C.C. slab = 9

Mix used
Cover provided

= M25
= 50mm

RAFT FOUNDATION
FOUNDATION

SIMPLE

COLUMN
Column is a vertical member provided to transfer the load of structure to the
foundation .

Types of columns:- Rectangular column

Circular column
Hexagonal column
At my training site rectangular columns were used.

Data from site:-Size of columns

Reinforcement
Cover provided
Mix used

=
9x18 & 9x24
=
8 bars of 25 mm dia in ground floor columns
=
40mm
=
M25

Steps of Casting of
columns:--

Column starter

verticality check

Reinforcement

concreting

Shuttering

BEAM AND
SLAB

Beam is an structural element spanning over an opening usually to support roof

or floor above

Types of beams:-Simple beam

Continuous beam
Cantilever beam
Slab is an structural element made of stone or concrete supported on the walls
or beams which provide a flat surface and support the loads on it .

Data from site :-Size of beam

=9x12
Cover in beam = 25mm
Thickness of slab= 5
Cover in slab
=20mm
mix used
= M20

Reinforcement of slab and beam:--

Reinforcement of slab
(8mm dia bars @ 6)

Reinforcement of beam
(16mm dia bars with 8mm
dia bar stirrups @ 6)

Electric conduits
Development length of
column (Ld = 60xdia)

MASONRY
Masonry is the building of structures from individual units which are bound together
by mortar.

Type of masonry:-Stone masonry

Brick masonry
At my training site stone masonry was used in the foundation of VILLAS and brick
masonry was used in partition walls of apartments.

Brick masonry data from site:-Thickness of masonry

= 4.5 & 9
Class of bricks
= A class
Masonry bond
= stretcher bond( 4.5 wall) & English bond( 9
wall)
Mortar ratio
= 1:5 & 1:6
Reinforcement (4.5 wall) = 2-3 bars of 8 mm dia at 3 and 7 height

Brick masonry details:-Racking of joints

(10 15 mm)

Stretcher face of brick

Horizontal joint
(20mm approx.)

Vertical joint
(10 12mm)

English bond

R.C. Bed plate 3 thick at height

3 from finished floor level
Stretcher bond

ELECTRIC
CONDUITING

Electric conduiting is the process of making chases and fitting the electric
conduits in a building.

General data for making chases:- depth of horizontal chases 1/6 of wall thickness
Depth of vertical chases
1/3 of wall thickness
After making chases the pipes should be properly fitted with the help of wires
&nails or with the help of pipe holders.

PLASTERIN
G

A thin mortar covering applied on the surface of walls and ceilings to make the
surface smooth and to develop decorative effects.

Types of plaster:- Interior plaster

Exterior plaster

Data from site:--

Interior plaster:-Mortar ratio

= 1:5
Thickness
(1)on unleveled side = 20mm
(2)on leveled side
= 15mm

Exterior plaster:-Mortar ratio

Thickness

= 1:4
= 20mm

Plastering tools:--

Trowel

Plastering

Straight Edge

Scratching
Tool

FLOORING
Floor is the lower most surface of a room on which one may stand or walk.

Types of floors:- Ground floors

Upper floors

Ground floors data from site:-Overall thickness

= 1 feet
Thickness of soling
= 6 inches
Thickness of P.C.C.
= 4 inches
Tiles & adhesive margin = 2 - 2.5 inches

steps of flooring
work :--

SOLING

PLATE VIBRATOR

P.C.C

DISTEMPERING
Distemper is applied on the plastered surfaces to create smooth surface.

Distempering process:- Rubbing and cleaning of surface.

Primer coat.
Distemper coats.

Data from site:- Distemper

= Asian paints distemper.
Application
= by using painting roll.
No. of distemper coats = 2 coats.
