Revelation 22:18-19
I warn everyone who hears the prophetic
words in this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the
plagues described in this book,19and if anyone takes away from the
words in this prophetic book, God will take away his share in the tree
of life and in the holy city described in this book.

valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.[a]

2 Kings 5:4-7

Naaman went to his master and told him what the girl from Israel had
said.5By all means, go, the king of Aram replied. I will send a letter to
the king of Israel. So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents [a]of silver,
six thousand shekels[b]of gold and ten sets of clothing.6The letter that
he took to the king of Israel read: With this letter I am sending my
servant Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy.
7
As soon as the king of Israel read the letter,he tore his robes and said,
Am I God?Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send
someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a
quarrelwith me!

2 Kings 5:8
8
When Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his
robes, he sent him this message: Why have you torn your robes? Have
the man come to me and he will know that there is a prophetin Israel.

2 Kings 5:9-11

So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door
of Elishas house.10Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, Go,
washyourself seven timesin the Jordan, and your flesh will be
restored and you will be cleansed.
11
But Naaman went away angry and said, I thought that he would
surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of theLORDhis
God, wave his handover the spot and cure me of my leprosy.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4
The Resurrection of Christ
15Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospelI
preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your
stand.2By this gospel you are saved,if you hold firmlyto the word I
preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3
For what I receivedI passed on to youas of first importance [a]: that
Christ died for our sinsaccording to the Scriptures, 4that he was
buried, that he was raisedon the third dayaccording to the Scriptures,

2 Corinthians 11:14-15
14
And no wonder, for Satanhimself masquerades as an angel of light. 15It
is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of
righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

whom you came to believeas the Lord has assigned to each his task.

2 Kings 5:13

Naamans servants went to him and said, My father,if the prophet
had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How

2 Kings 5:12
12
Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all
the watersof Israel? Couldnt I wash in them and be cleansed? So he
turned and went off in a rage.

your servant.

the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.
(Matthew 28:19-20)
Matthew records these words as the final explicit instructions of Jesus
before he ascended to heaven. This passage is called the Great
Commission because it is the foundation for our missionary
outreach. But if going is a part of the Great Commission and if
making disciples is a part of the Great Commission and if teaching
is a part of the Great Commission, then so is baptizing.
Notice the logical progression. We go and spread the gospel. In
our witnessing we will make disciples. We are to baptize those
disciples and then teach them to obey the words of Jesus.
Baptism is part and parcel of Jesus's command to the church. It is
fundamental to our mission in the world.
Put simplybaptism is a clear command of Jesus Christ. We
obey him when we baptize and we disobey him when we
don't.
